On the western part of the southern continent there is an island called Ierne Island where Ierne-M'genathril Weyr sits. The Weyr is actually a half circle - the open half faces the ocean and it is a ten minute walk or less from the edge of the rim to the water itself. In the middle of the Bowl is a large tree that will eventually be huge. A young sky-broom sits there, planted by the famed M'genathril himself. While there is certainly enough space to be carved for new weyrs, not much has been done to make them with the way their numbers have been dwindling and with so many empty weyrs already. The long unused weyrling quarters are on the far eastern tip of the Weyr, facing outward instead of inward to keep the emotional weyrlings from broadcasting to the Weyr at large. The Hatching Grounds lies in the middle of the curve (which faces North) with the feeding pens on one side, and entrances almost directly from the candidate dorms on the other. Outside of the rim of the Weyr, the soil is fertile and dragonriders and weyrfolk alike work the land for themselves and the herdbeasts, while others go out on fishing trips to bring a variety of food into the Weyr. They lose quite an odd number of people to the ocean, but with the weather in such a state it is easily brushed off. The land itself is filled mostly as far as the eye can see with smaller plants and shrubs. No great forests have yet recovered on the island.
