Dragons

Black: This dragon is female, and most definitely a queen. Coming in pure black and usually being large and solidly built, her temperament makes it so no one could forget her if they wanted to. The typical black is a loud and blunt queen, prone to holding grudges and stubborn to the point of idiocy. The fact that she has retractable spikes that begin appearing at the base of her neck and run down to the end of her tail give her a striking and sometimes fearful appearance. One of typical size matures at two turns and six months, reaching full size sometime before or just at that point and she Flies about once every turn and a half. Clutches can range anywhere from 5-50 eggs.

Pearl: These dragons are the largest dragons, second only to Blacks. Coming in shades of cream or white, they can have markings of other colors. The main noticeable thing about them is the fact they are furred all over their bodies instead of having hide. Their fur comes in various lengths. They Impress to those with the potential to be leaders and who are also energetic. Pearls Fly Black-sized down to Yetti-sized and reach sexual maturity when they are two turns and five months old, though they might not reach full size until a few months after that.

Jade: Colored like the gemstone they are named after, these large males are serpent-like in that they are highly flexible and can coil themselves up into knots. They are colored a faintly gem-tinted green and are extremely fast and streamlined. They are a highly ambitious dragon - when they have set a goal, average just is not good enough. They have to be the best. They go for people like that, who will strain themselves to be the best - ambitious achievers. They mature at two turns and two months and can Fly Black-sized down to Quartz-sized.

Gold: Originally the largest of the dragons, she is any shade of gold. As a queen, she has the power to order around most dragons and make them obey her. Few dragons can lie to a queen successfuly. A few, the more strong willed or crafty, can avoid this. Bronzes have the best luck but an angry queen is a queen that even the bronzes bow before. They are protective of their Weyr and "their" dragons, and very proud. During Flights no other queen can be near for there is the risk that a fight will start - especially if another queen is near Flight as well. They Fly about once a Turn or less. Clutches are about 10-40 eggs, up there during a Pass, much less otherwise. They Impress heterosexual women with leadership skills and reach maturity at two turns but may not reach full growth for another three months.

Tourmaline: The Tourmaline dragons are perhaps most noticeable thanks to their hide, which sparkles in the sunlight and can come in any color of the main rainbow in pastel; their hides are rarely a single color. A Tourmaline dragon can be born with all the colors of the main rainbow on his hide, although most of them are both with a maximum of three colors on their hides. They are most interesting for their attachment to the Yetti dragons, however, which are the only dragons they cannot resist Flying--not even a Queen Flight is irresistible to them. Often calmer and more steadfast dragons, the Tourmalines let a lot of things roll off their thick hide, although when they become angry they can be especially vicious and bloodthirsty. They are sturdily built and solid, making them good at straight flying but not the best at in-the-air acrobatics, and often Impress people who are more easily distracted. A typical Tourmaline dragon will reach sexual maturity when he is one turn, twelve months old, although he may not reach his full size until a month or two after that.

Bronze: The largest males of the original colors. They Impress heterosexual men with strong leadership abilities. Their riders frequently have positions of rank, and these days the Bronze is almost as rare as the Gold because of how few clutches there are. They are usually arrogant, but also leaders, very rarely is a bronze indecisive or loses their head in a given situation. Although all mutated Bronzes are born physically normal, they have a much higher chance of being obscenely large/small. They can be a dark bronze that's nearly brown, to a green-bronze, to a bright gold-bronze or anything in between. They mature and are full sized at around a turn and nine months, and fly Gold-sized females and smaller.

Red: These females are between the size of a Brown and a Bronze. Despite their size getting close to the larger dragons they are not Queens. They seem to tend to Impress virgins or innocents more than anything. In build they are slender and long limbed with, strangely enough, a long spiraling horn on their foreheads. It is sharp enough that it can also be used as an extra weapon should they have need of it. They are mature at a turn and six months and may reach full size anytime after that. They Fly every seven months.

Brown: The midsized male, he is the power in the ranks. While he doesn't have the clear strength of the Bronze, or the agility and speed of a Blue, a Brown is the best choice for straight, stamina needing straight flight. Tricks and speed Flying take it out of him but in clear skies he will use minimum amount of stamina for the maximum amount of land. Mutated browns have a scent gland that as they mature becomes active and draws creatures to them. They can Fly Gold-sized females and anything smaller. They Impress males or homosexual females that have a steady center and who either are or have the ability to be in control of their emotions. They are mature and full sized at a turn and four months.

Beige: Some upon Hatching might think that a really big wher egg had gotten into the clutch. These females dragons are stocky, overmuscled with one pair of legs shorter than the other and a pebbly hide that comes in any shade of beige, usually looking dull or washed out. Their wing are tattered from birth, though it barely seems to impede their flying. As if to make up for it, they're hyper intelligent, learning quickly but putting what they learn to use in manipulations and underhanded schemes. Maturing at about a turn and two months and Fly every four months.

Blue: The smallest male of the original five colors, the Blue has less stamina then the other males, but is faster and quicker. He is an in between dragon - not the quickest, not the most agile, but when someone needs a quick mission that might take more than a few hours, he's better than the green - the greens tire too quickly, while the Blue can last longer. In a Threadfall they are good for guarding the power centers of a Wing. They Fly Greens. They Impress anything but heterosexual females, usually people with more friendly personalities, or those willing to follow at least. They are mature at a turn, but can take a couple of extra months to reach full growth.

Yetti: A petite-looking dragon that is slim and small-framed with lovely see-through wings, they come in all shades of purple - and don't seem to have a typical gender. Baffling all, the Yettis are not male, or female, but a third gender that is both. They can Fly and be Flown after maturity, rising after females and turning the tables when they Fly themselves and have the same males they were competing with coming after them. In Impression, they show an odd tendency to sometimes go for those who are more physically flexible. They mature at a turn and Fly every three months. ((First hatched won't care about what hem's does in regards to sex until a Tourmaline hatches and then until the Tourmaline is mature hem's Impressed can't do nothin'. Need Tourmalines in the Weyr to have sex drives.)) (AS a note we're using she/he = se, him/her = hem, his/her = hes.)

Green: The smallest dragon of the original five, they are quick, agile, and very flighty. They aren't the best for long-term missions, but for a quick mission or something that needs to be done now Greens are best. They are the flirtiest of the dragons, and fly about every eight sevendays. They get attached less to their mates than other dragons, but it's not impossible that a green will always have one male continuously catching her. They do not clutch. They Impress anything but heterosexual males, of any personality, and are mature and at full growth at one turn old. Mutated Greens are born with fur on their wings. They Impress any personality but prefer something with a bit of fire in them - whether flirty or fighter, since that was, in the old days, what greens were known for. They were flirts - but they were also fighters.

Peridot: A yellow-green or green-yellow color on average, Peridots are on average the smallest of dragons. Despite this, they are lanky in build and have enormous amounts of stamina. Enough so that despite their size, they can do as well as other males in longer Flights of larger dragons. They also have four wings, giving them a boost. They generally tend to have more extra energy because of their small size and great amounts of stamina, causing them to be more restless dragons and they usually tend towards those who know how to be calm and stand still to balance them out. They mature at nine months and thanks to their stamina they can Fly anything Gold-sized and below.

Quartz: A gem-tinted clear, reflective, and opaque tiny Queen, she always seems to have an attitude that she knows a secret. This is entirely possible as Quartzes always have their minds turned towards listening to gossip and going-ons in the Weyr. She tends to Impress to people that are shy. She matures at twelve months. She Flies two or sometimes three times a Turn and has 2-25 eggs.
