Waiting for my Breakthrough
"May hinihintay ka ba?"
8:56 pm - This was a question posed by Mam Giselle, my Eng 2 instructor, in her attendance sheet. Looking at other people's replies, it was only natural for a lot to be bemused by the question. But it made me think. And yes, I was indeed waiting for some things.

I am waiting for me to make the breakthrough in my endeavours and academic life.

I got sick for a large part of my first two weeks in class. That means a lot of missed lessons, quizzes and a lot of work to do. Ok so no doubt about it.

But while my start to this sem was unexpected and simply unlucky, it couldn't have been better for someone who endured five days in bed with a 39 degree fever. I had a relatively good start to my Math 26 class, CMSC 2 is pretty easy and I need not worry about that, then I just learned how to work CMSC 11, CMSC 56 and Botany, and finally Eng 2 should come very natural to me.

All in all, the first weeks of classes gave me a hint on how to reach my goals. Now all I have to do is do get them. And get them I will.
Quotable Quotes from the First Day of Classes
"The first day of class is the most important day of all," says one imposter who pretended for some time that he was our Eng 2 teacher. Actually he was just some burly, gay senior who probably didn't have anything worthwile to do. He did a good job of pretending though and I can't believe I fell for his antic.

On the other hand, Mr. Jaime Samaniego, my CMSC 11 professor, had this catchy phrase to impart:

"Talon agad sa pool! Hopefully by the end of the semester lumalangoy na kayo!.

Good metaphor but I still doubt your poetry skills.

But before that, Mr. Ariel Babbiera confirmed his intentions to make Math 26 a dreaded subject by exclaiming, " Madalang ako magbigay ng bonus". Taray mo ah!(wink, wink)

Our botany teacher was a bit more encouraging than her subject looked. She had this to say for starters in her very intimidating and tedios subject:

"Genius is 1% percent inspiration and 99% perspiration."

She also shared to us a poem, Rubaiyat by Omar Khayyam, which could be summed up as saying, past is past and you can't do anything about.

Yeah right. It's like I've never heard these things before. Typical first day I guess. Nothing special about it. Well so much for the quotes. Life goes on.

Site Update
I made a new script which filters out cuss words and my name from being used on the tagboards. Next time I'll add another one that valdiates strings entered into the url text box (for those people who mess around with tagboards. Jesus Christ, can't you guys find anything better to do?).
One day before 2nd Sem
10:49 pm - Quite a bit of a productive day for me. I cooked one hell of a mish-mash of rice topping, packed some of my gear and finally finished my tag-board.

The layout is mine
It took me about two hours to finish the layout. I had the some of the aesthetic specs done yesterday but I wasn't quite satisfied with the arrangement (I am very meticulous you know). I had to position the forms using css and it turned out ok. Next, I had to look and implent a javascript that would count the number of characters typed into the textarea and display the amount of space one has left for typing. But it's done and I got it! I am one happy guy.

Terrible Friday
Enrolling in U.P was like getting a driver's license in LTO but even much worse! I woke up at 6am to get there at 7 but nevertheless the line was already making a semi-circle round NCAS(first floor). Even much worse was the queue for paying one's fees! The line reached all the way to the third floor and round it two times. Approximately, the latter was moving at a pace of 3 meters every 5 minutes. Quite fast I guess but not for long. I knew when I met Jed, H1 blocmate, after and accompanied him to the queue. When we got there the line was even moving much slower! It took us 30 freaky minutes to get to the NEAR the stairs going down to the second story. That's a little less than the amount of time I had to lineup! If I here him I would be furious. Well a lot of people around us were. You could see it in their faces.

Well it's back to LB for me tomorrow and I am missing Alaska Cup to get my all my preparations underway. It was a very fruitful sem break no doubt about it. I hope it would be a productive and triumphant second sem as well. (",)!
What this is all about
Some reasons why I made a blog:

1. Design Practice - This blogging isn't just about writing. It's also a good way to practice self-expression. My imagination is a wild chamber of ideas waiting to be unleashed. Art gives these inward experiences form. And the final product is my design. Designing doesn't come to me like taking a wild shot in soccer. Designing a website is a painstaking process. And just like soccer, it comes as second nature with practice. Right now, I am starting with the most basic of layouts but I'd xpect this site to slowly become more spectacular.

2. Programming Practice - Look around the screen. I know for a lot of geeks it's pretyt simple but I'm proud of the fact that a lot of what you see there, except for the calendar, wasn't HARDcoded by someone else and I'd like to keep it that way or improve on it.

3. Online Presence- Since we don't meet that often anymore, it's good for my close friends to know what the hell I am into. (HINT: My high school class. I really miss you guys! Magparamdam naman kayo.)

4. Self-Glorification - If there's any good place to brag about your achievements and works for the whole world to see then I guess this would be it. Maybe someday Steve Jobs or Bill Gates chances upon my site and offers me a lucrative contract. Who knows?

May God help me in this noble endeavor
