What is annual camp?

Annual Camp is the highlight of the training year, with the aim to consolidate the cadets training received throughout the year, and also allow the cadets to participate in other challenging activities they may not ordinarily do.

Every year we travel to a different part of the country to hold our two week long annual camp along with the other companies from the south wales area. Camps are generally held late July or early August. The cost is normally around £50, which is terrific value for money. Included in this is your accommodation and food, along with activities that you can do on your adventurous training days.

Last annual camp for example, we were given the opportunity to do clay pidgins shooting, canoeing, quad biking and paint balling. If you were to participate in these activities in your own time, it would cost well over £50, and that does not include your accommodation and food supplies for the two weeks!

This is Taylor on the way home from annual camp, hasn't he changed!?

Annual camp-personal experience by Cdt.Taylor

My experience of annual camp was fun as well as hard work to achieve my star 2 level. The great thing about camp was the assault course, firing weapons and camouflage in the field. These were the things that made camp realistic.

I made a great amount of good friends, that helped me and took care of my in the field, i.e. when we use the buddy, buddy system for caming up.

I learned allot of new skills that I never knew before. These skill are vital and will help me to achieve my three star. Fieldcraft, skill at arms and map and compass were my favourite subjects as they were fun and interesting.

The highlights of annual camp for me were the quad bikes and the paint balling. I enjoyed the paintballing because it was good practise for section attacks and the quads were excellent because you could go fast and jump over small mountains.

I recommend going to annual camp because it is worth the money, fun, a chance to make new friends and learn new skills. But you will never know what it is truly like until go and experience it for yourself.

Making the bed was one of the highlights of the cdt's day! (Because they'd never done it before!)
