Neo Sonic
In this trick the pen starts by being held between the middle and ring finger. Pressure is applied by locking the pen betweeen the skin between the thumb and index finger. The pressure is released, the pen spins around the middle finger, then is caught by the thumb. You should have this trick down in 1 day-1week.
Step 1: Pressure: Lock the pen between the skin of the thumb and index finger. Push down a bit with your middle finger and up with your ring finger. Don't apply a lot of pressure. A little bit is enough. Also make sure the center of balance is to the right (if you are right handed) of where your fingers are holding it.
Step 2: realese pressure: Pull back your thumb, and at the same time increase the presure a little with you middle and ring fingers.
Step 3: the spin: The pencil should(chances are it won't) spin around the middle finger for one rotation.
Step 4: the catch: Once the pencil has completed a rotation around your middle finger, it will land in your thumb
Thumb Spin Normal
This trick is very much like the thumb around normal, exept the pen spins on top of the thumb instead of around it. If you have already mastered the thumb around normal you should have this one down in a day. Otherwise, it should take you 1 day-1 week. |
Step 1: starting position: Start with the pen held the same way as the thumb around normal, just make sure that your thumb is paralell with the floor.
Step 2: the push: Push the pen on top of the thumb, at the same time folding it.
Step 3: the spin: The pen will spin on top of your thumb for one rotation. During this time keep your thumb still.
Step 4: the catch: Once the pen has completed one rotation on top of the thumb, catch it with your index finger.
Index Spin Normal
This trick involves the pen being pushed by the middle finger, than spinning around the index finger for one ratation before being caught between the index and middle fingers. I am not sure how long it will take you to learn this trick. I found it very easy and had it down in a day. But at Pentix(you'll find a link there on the home page) Kam(the Author of Pentix) said that it is much harder to learn the the Thumb Around normal. Form My expierience in this trick, I would say you should have this one down in 1day-4days.
Step 1: Starting Position: Have you hand open, your fingers parrallel to the floor. Hold the pen between your index and middle fingers. Have the center of balancejust below your middle finger.
Step 2: The Push: using your middle finger push the pen over your index finger. Once the pen has been pushed, get the middle finger ready to catch the pen.
Step 3: the spin: The pen will spin around your index finger for one rotation.
Step 4: the catch: once the pen has made one ratation around your index finger catch it between your index and middle fingers.
Half Tap
Step 1: starting position: hold the pen in the position you would to write. Then straighten out the index finger and the thumb a bit more. The pen should be resting on your middle finger.
Step 2: the push: push, or lightly tap the pen, with your index finger.
Step 3: the spin: the pen will make a half rotation on top of your thumb
Step 4: there is not much to the catch. Just let the pen fall back into the starting position
once the pen has made a half rotation on top of your thumb.
Fake Foward
In this trick the pen is held on the thumb and middle finger, the index finger on top of it. Then the hand makes a CCW movement and the pen spins in the "well" of your hand. Hold your hand open. the area between the thumb and index finger is the "well." This trick takes about 3-6 days to learn.
Step 1: starting position: the pen should be placed on your thumb and middle finger. Make sure the pen is pupendicular to your fingers. Then place the index finger on top of the pen.
Step 2: the push Move your hand in a CCW direction. The area between your index finger and middle finger will push the pen.
Step 3: the spinThe pen will now spin in the well of your hand.
Step 4: once the pen has made almost one ratation, catch it with your index finger.
Thumb Spin 1.5
Perform this trick in the same way as the Thumb Spin Normal. Bend your thumb after you push the pen. This will elevate the pen enough so it does not bump into your index finger. The pen will make an extra half rotation on top of the thumb, and then you can catch it with your index finger. When one becomes skilled at Thumb Spins he can get the pen to spin 3 or more times on top of his thumb.
Reverse Thumb Around
In this trick the pen is pushed around the thumb by the index finger in the opposite direction as the Thumb Around Normal. You should have this trick down in 2 days-10 days.
Step 1: Starting position: Hold the pen with your index and middle fingers. Make sure the center of balance is to the right of where you are holding it. Place your index finger on the center of balance.
Step 2: the push: Push the pen with your index finger. Once you have pushed the pen, bring the index finger back and get ready to catch the pen.
Step 3: the spin: The pen will make one rotation around the thumb. During this time do not move the thumb.
Step 4: the catch: Once the pen has made one rotation around the thumb, catch it with both your index and middle fingers.
Backaround:
This trick involves the pen being held in a half tap like position, part of the pen in between the index and middle finger. The hand makes a gentle thrusting movement, and the pen spins on the base of the index finger. After one rotation the hand tilts, and the pen falls into the thumb. This trick is takes much practice, and will take you about two months to learn. But since this trick can be linked to many many tricks, it is well worth the effort of learning it.
Step 1: starting position: Hold the pen in a half tap position, making sure that the pen is touching the area between your index and middle finger. The center of balance should be a little above the area between the index and middle finger.
Step 2: the push: raise your wrist a little, and push it back down and foward. Don't use to much force. After the push your hand should be palm down and relaxed. Actually, it is important that your hand is releaxed the whole time.
Step 3: the spin: the pen should spin on top of the base of your index finger. Proper balance is critical at this stage, the pen can easily fall off.
Step 4: the catch: once the pen has made one rotation, tilt your hand down and turn it to the right a little so the pen falls into a half tap like position.
Sonic:
This trick involves the pen being held in a Neo-Sonic like postition, except the catch is different because you catch it between your index and middle fingers. You should have this trick down in 1-2 weeks.
Step 1: starting postition: Hold pen like you would for Neo-Sonic, the pen between your middle and ring fingers and pressure being applied by locking the pen between the tumb and the index finger. Ring finger pressure should be upwards, i.e. towards the index finger, while the middle finger applies pressure downwards.
Step 2: Release pressure: Slide the thumb back and off the pen while increasing pressure from middle and ring fingers. (not too much!)
Step 3: The spin: After pressure os released, make an effort to touch your middle finger to the palm of your hand, while trying to touch the ring and index fingers together.
Step 4: The catch: Pen should spin once and land between your index and middle fingers, the pen also cushioned by the thumb.
Charge
In this trick, the pen infinitely spins in a roundish spin between the middle and ring fingers. It's hard to learn, but the result is, and feels, wonderful. You might have this down in 2-3 weeks.
Step 1: The start: Hold the pen in the center between the middle and ring fingers.
Step 2a: The start of the spin: Pull ring finger VERY SLIGHTLY towards you.
Step 2b: Push the ring finger away from you and slightly upwards.
Step 3a: Middle of the spin: While ring finger is moving back, bend your middle finger VERY SLIGHTLY towards you.
Step 3b: After the ring finger is totally back, two things happen. One is that the ring finger is pulled back and slightly upwards so it creates a shallow U when viewed from the side. At the same time, move the middle finger moves forwards and slightly downwards.
Step 4: Continuing: Repeat steps 2a through 3b.
Step 5: The Catch: Just stop moving your fingers. 'Nuff said.
Tip: To start with the neccesary pressure, you might want to hook the pen between the Thumb and Index finger, like in the Sonic. Just don't change fingers
NeoBak (NeoBackAround)
In this trick, the pen makes a BackAround like spin but falls inbetween the index and middle fingers. This trick is used mainly for transitions to other tricks, but can be used individually with great effectiveness.
Step 1: The start: Hold the pen in a half tap position, making sure that the pen is touching the area between your index and middle finger. The center of balance should be a little above the area between the index and middle finger.
Step 2: The push: Raise your wrist a little, and push it back down and foward. Don't use to much force. After the push your hand should be palm down and relaxed. Actually, it is important that your hand is releaxed the whole time.
Step 3: The spin: The pen should still spin on the base of the index finger, but while it spins, move the index finger down a little bit.
Step 4: The catch: After the pen makes 1 complete turn, your hand should still be face down and the index finger slightly down. The pen should naturally collide with the slightly raised middle finger. When the pen almost stops against the middle finger, push the index finger up, and the middle finger down. Finish by catching with thumb.
BakTap
In this trick the pen makes a half rotation on top of the index finger. This trick starts perfectly after the NeoBak.
Step 1: The start: Well, like I said, it sets up perfectly after the NeoBak so it rests on top of the index finger and also rests against the middle finger
Step 2: The force: Flick your wrist to the left (for rightys) and tilt your wrist just so the pen won't fall off your hand. It's imperative that your wrist doesn't jerk too hard as the pen only needs to make a half rotation, and it becomes quite difficult to control as you increase jerkiness.
Step 3: The catch: After the pen spins on the index finger, raise it (the index finger) and the pen should fall under it. Finish like the NeoBak.
Tip: The index finger will flatten out during the hand flick, as to help facilitate the spin of the pen.
