PENRHYNCOCH RES 4 MACHYNLLETH 5
Penrhyn Reserves were sent crashing out of the Len and Julia Newman cup by second division side Machynlleth in a game they should have won easily. Leading by 3-1 deep in the second half, Mach produced an amaizing comeback to snatch victory and send them into the quarter finals. Despite a hat-trick from Gareth Hughes and one from Ceiron Cotter, the reserves would pay for their missed chances throughout the match.
PENRHYNCOCH 3RDS 1 PENPARCAU RES. 9
A strong and experienced Penparcau side were to much for the 3rds on saturday when they were comprehensively beaten in the 2nd division trophy. Only a solitary goal from Sean Gorman provided some joy as the visitors cruised through to the next round.
Penrhyncoch U17's 2 v Newcastle Emlyn 1
The u17's secured the League Championship at Cae Baker on Thursday 24th April in front of a large crowd against there nearest rivals NCE - who if they had won would have secured the championship themselves.
Penrhyn started on fire and within 4 mins Ryan Davies notched his 20th league goal of the season with an excellent finish - Deian Thomas and David Griffiths were giving the NCE reargaurd a torrid time and they could have increased there lead on a number of occassions. Having weathered the initial storm NCE came back into the game and the engine room of skipper Ben Grasham and Adam Tourle needed to be at there best to keep the game in Penrhyns grasp. The back four of Evans, Morgan, South & Evans did an excellent job of protecting Jenkins in goal who had to react smartly and show good handling on a couple of occassions.
The game was effectly made safe when after 34 mins an excellent passing move ended with David Griffiths rounding the first half scoring - 2-0 at half time - realistically it could have been 4 or 5.
To there credit NCE made a fight of it in the second half and shouts of disbelief from the management team when they wanted a penalty after Jenkins clashed with Williams. Jenkins and Jenkins (Bones and Carwyn) rung in the changes with 5 second half subsitutions and despite Emlyn getting a goal back with 11 mins to go Penrhyn could have and indeed should have scored a few more - however to great cheers at the final whistle Penrhyn were home and dry.
Well done to the lads - they all deserved this for there effort and commitment over the season - some of these lads have been with the Club since the age of 6 and have experienced heartache after heartache in the past - but they have stuck together as a unit and grafted there way to this - they fully deserve any plaudits coming there way.
The management Bones and Carwyn who've been assisted by Jonny Bobble and John Bailey along the way had the biggest smiles in Ceredigion last night - but nots let forget the lads some of which have lost in the Welsh Schools final at U11's, U14's, U16's and an Emrys Morgan Final - now was there glory.

PENRHYNCOCH RES. 1 UWA RES. 2
Penrhyncoch Reserves failed to take advantage of Penparcau's slip up when they lost to bottom of the league UWA Reserves. With players unavailable to travel with the first team the Reserves fielded a highly experienced team but couldn,t take advantage of their superior posession or score from about 15 to twenty chances. The students worked hard throughout and took the lead with their first chance but the home sides failure to score enough goals this year has probably blown any chance they had of winning the league.
Jon Bailey equalised for Penrhyn with a superb freekick from twenty five yards, the hardest opportunity of the game but Penrhyn continued to miss chances and could not take the lead. The home side knew a draw was not good enough and in the second half continued to search for the winner. Chance after chance went begging and then a UWA defender committed a horrific tackle on Simon Macczak. Then the UWA keeper decided to take up acting when he went down as if he had been shot when challenged by Hartnell and then did the same but worse as he kicked the ball out jumped on the floor rolling about ten times and this angered everyone including spectators. Two minutes later two players were sent off, one for each side and then the killer blow for Penrhyn as the students took the lead and won the game.
UWA 3RDS 2 PENRHYNCOCH 3RDS 1
Two first half goals from the students was enough to win this tie, with only a late strike from Kevin Jones brought some respectability to the scoreline.
PENRHYNCOCH RES 1 PADARN UTD 0 (AET)
Penryncoch Reserves reach their second cup final of the season but made very hard work of the semi final tie. Padarn United arrived at Cae Baker in buoyant mood and full of confidence as they are heading for promotion in Division Two and were keen to show the high flying Division One side their credentials for next year.
The first half saw Padarn put in a lot of effort and they disrupted a lot of Penrhyn's play and as the half went on Penrhyn started making mistake after mistake. The half saw very few chances for either team but Padarn were looking the better side and Penrhyn were producing one of their poorest performances of the season.
The second half started much better for Penrhyn and they looked more like themselves. They pushed on at Padarn and slowly grew into the game and started dominating possession. As the half continued, Penrhyn created a number of good chances with Gareth Hughes putting in some dangerous crosses but nobody could get on the end of them.
Extra time again for the Penrhyn who have probably played more cup football than any other of the Cambrian Tyres teams having gone to extra time five times already this season. With Padarn looking tired after all of the effort they had put into the game it was Penrhyn now in complete control but the goal just would not come. Gaz Hughes fired wide from a good chance and then Gareth Hughes went through, lobbed the keeper but the ball hit the bar, when the ball dropped Hughes had lost his balance and could only hit the ball wide. Penrhyn hit the bar once more and it was looking like penalties again. In the dieing minutes a break at the edge of the box fell to Gaz Hughes who struck his shot towards goal with the ball deflecting past the keeper and Penrhyn were through. Credit goes to Padarn who worked extremely hard through the game and Penrhyn can thank their lucky stars they have reached another final.
Aber Reserves 3rds 3 Penrhyncoch Youth Reserves 0
Aberystwyth 3rds beat Penrhyncoch Reserves at Blaendolau in a game where the scoreline 3 goals to nil flattered the home side. Penrhyncoch where without 8 of their regulars and replaced them with five of their talented sixteen year olds in what was a makeshift side. It was quite the opposite for Aber who had told manager Stan Richards that all of his 3rd team were to be dropped and he was to replace them with all 14 of the reserve squad who are top of the Spar Mid Wales league which was very harsh for his third team regulars.
What had already looked like an uphill task for Penrhyn was made even more difficult when after only four minutes Josh Hartrick found space in the box and volleyed Aber ahead. Penrhyn battled back however and were winning all of the 50-50s in midfield. Penrhyn almost equalised when a mistake in the Aber defence almost let in Gaz Hughes. They went close again following good work from young Mathew Evans and a Gareth Hughes drive from twenty yards was well saved by Llewelyn Hughes. On the half hour Aber doubled the lead when a long range shot from Rob Davies found its way in under keeper Leigh Jenkins. The Penrhyn defence were working hard and were doing well to keep Hatrick and Stuart Fraser at bay.
The second half saw Penrhyn step up a gear and take the game to the home side and young Ben Grasham was having an excellent game against the experienced ex Penrhyncoch player Richard Thomas and captain Ben Sherbon was very dominating up against Tom Shaw. Penrhyn almost pulled one back when Hughes met a corner well but his header was well saved. At the other end Jenkins made up for his earlier mistake with an outstanding save to deny Thomas a certain goal.
For twenty minutes the away team looked the better side and it was difficult to see who was the Mid Wales squad. The two Hughes combined again for Penrhyn when they created another good chance and they were causing problems for Ben Van Gooch in the home defence. However, with minutes remaining it was Aber who scored a third which was cruel on the away side who had performed so well. The goal came from a corner and as the ball floated towards the far post it was met by Adam Hall to score from close range. Penrhyncoch came out of the fixture with their league chances damaged but their pride intact but the home side were left very disappointed by their display.
EMRYS MORGAN FINAL
PENRHYNCOCH RES 1 PENPARCAU 1
(Penparcau win 3-2 on pens)
Penrhyncoch Reserves came agonisingly close to winning the Emrys Morgan cup losing to Penparcau on penalties. In a very evenly game played in front of a huge Cae Baker crowd it was Penparcau who started the better of the two sides. Playing Lee Jones up front on his own Penparcau's tactics were to flood the midfield denying Penrhyn the chance to dominate possession like they did in the league game. It seemed to work well in the early stages as Penrhyn could not hold on to the ball and Jones looked very sharp coming very close to opening the scoring when a fierce shot cannoned off the cross bar. Penrhyn had a chance themselves to open the scoring when the very impressive Gareth Hughes found Jon Bailey in space but he sliced his shot wide of the post. Penrhyn were pleased to get to half time level but had started to work their way back into the game before the half time whistle blew.
The second half started better for Penrhyn and in the first five minutes they looked far more comfortable in possession and started taking the game to Penparcau. The game opened up more and became more expansive as both sides looked for the opening. It was Penrhyn who took the lead when they broke quickly following a Penparcau attack and young Dylan Morgan, who had an excellent game marking Mikey Gornall, threaded a pass through to Hughes. Hughes managed to stay on side and then he was through on goal. He raced towards goal and as Tom Sheehy came diving out towards him, Hughes lifted the ball over him and found the bottom corner.
Penparcau were stunned but took no time at all in getting the equaliser. As they threw everything at Penrhyn, a cross field ball was headed by the unfortunate Bailey and spun towards Lee Jones. Jones found a yard of space inside the box and turned inside Graham Thomas firing a low drive past Leigh Jenkins. It was painful for the Penrhyn defence as Thomas had up to that point kept Jones quiet and Jenkins in the home goal had been having an excellent evening showing fantastic form for a sixteen year old.
With both sides level the game went from one half to the other with both sides giving their all. Extra time it was as no team could find a winner. Penrhyn came close when a corner sailed towards the back post and as the outstanding Huw Jones jumped he left it for Owain James who had called behind him. James saw it late and the ball hit him on the chest just going wide of the post. Owain James had an excellent game in man marking Ishmael Abberton, who Penrhyn had identified as a danger man, and as extra time ticked away Penparcau switched Abberton to the right wing and away from James. This proved a good move as he threatened to kill the game with some excellent attacking play towards the end. He managed to find space in the box and his shot was superbly blocked by Jenkins. His best chance came five minutes before the end when he drifted back in field going past three players. As he approached the penalty area and was about to pull the trigger, Thomas came from nowhere with a sliding tackle that knocked him off his feet. As the players and crowd waited for a red card, the referee decided Thomas was not the last man and only cautioned the player with a yellow card. With only seconds remaining at the other end, Steve Hughes found space twenty yards out and as his goal bound effort sailed into the goal as the referee blew up for full time and the goal did not count.
Penalties again for Penrhyn who fancied their chances having knocked out Newcastle and Llandrindod Wells on penalties in previous rounds. It was not to be their day though as their luck finally ran out. Penparcau won 3 penalties to 2 in a very nervy finish. Manager Jonathan Evans said "it's obviously very disappointed to be so close to winning the cup for the first time but I am very proud of all the players and the hard work they put in tonight and in getting us to the final. Congratulations to Penparcau who played very well. We were always the underdogs but showed a display of fantastic teamwork, guts and determination, to push an extremely strong side all the way to a penalty shoot out. We have a very young side with three of the side still only sixteen and with many more to come through next year so I am very proud of our cup run."
DOLGELLAU 3 PENRHYNCOCH RES. 3
Penrhyncoch Reserves missed the opportunity to close the gap on leaders Tregaron with a draw in Dolgellau. In dreadful conditions on a pitch that cut up severely the away side took the lead with a superb bit of individual skill from Gareth Hughes (Talybont) chipping the keeper from thirty yards. Dolgellau were soon level when the powerful Dolgellau midfielder was allowed to turn and shoot at the edge of the box. It was the home side that went into the interval leading when a slip up due to the conditions saw a long cross field pass find an oncoming winger who went round Toby Spain in the home goal and slotted the ball into the net.
With the conditions worsening the referee warned that the game may be abandoned. The second half started in the worst possible way for Penrhyn with Dolgellau increasing their lead. The away side looked to be suffering a hangover from their Emrys Morgan exploits two days earlier and looked as if they were well and truly beaten. However, on 65 minutes, Ashley Stevens pulled one back with a fierce right foot drive from twenty yards. With only ten minutes remaining the away sides character came through and they levelled the scores when Gethin Williams fired home a freekick. Considering the youth in the side and the conditions manager Jonathan Evans was very pleased with the result and the way the side never gave up. They are now unbeaten in the league since early September and take on Penparcau in the Emrys Morgan Final on Good Friday.
PENRHYNCOCH RES. 1 LLANDRINDOD 1 (Penrhyn win 4-2 on pens.)
Penrhyncoch Reserves booked their place in the Emrys Morgan final to be played on Good Friday with a win over Mid Wales South side Llandrindod Wells. On a very heavy pitch both sides struggled to play neat football and it took penalties to separate the two sides.
Llandod started very brightly and it took five minutes for Penrhyn to settle. However, for the next twenty minutes Penrhyn were the better side looking dangerous up front with the pace of Gareth Hughes and young David Griffiths causing problems. Hughes almost opened the scoring when he broke free but a well struck effort was saved by the keeper. On twenty five minutes Jon Bailey was forced off through injury and Penrhyn struggled from then until half time. Llandod went close when their striker broke free but the strike was well saved by Leigh Jenkins in the home goal.
The second half saw a big improvement in Penrhyn and they started to worry the opposition defence. A goal was coming and when Hughes challenged for a high ball it fell straight to Griffiths who hit it first time past the keeper. Penrhyn now looked well in control and almost got a second but Griffiths could only fire wide. With fifteen minutes remaining Llandod made changes and pushed forward and got their reward when a well struck shot flew in from twenty yards. Penrhyn hung on for the remainder with Llandod pushing for the winner.
Extra time saw the teams very evenly matched and chances were few and far between. Llandod went the closest hitting the bar with a free kick and for Penrhyn the best chance fell to Huw Jones who curled a shot just past the post from outside the box. Penalties needs a hero, step forward Penrhyn keeper Jenkins. Jenkins, the hero from earlier in the competition in a shoot out saved two out of the five kicks, the second a superb stop with his left hand having already dived the wrong way. A very even contest, with neither team deserving to lose was decided in the most cruel of ways and the prestigious competition will now have a new name on the competition as Penrhyn or Penparcau have ever won the Emrys Morgan.
UWA RES. 0 PENRHYNCOCH RES. 3
Penrhyncoch Reserves progress to the League Cup semi-finals after beating UWA Reserves three goals to nil. A game played in dreadful conditions saw little quality football in the first half and Penrhyn were only threatening from set pieces. The conditions were making it extremely difficult for both sides and the half finished nil, nil.
Penrhyncoch started the second half with more purpose and Ben Sherbon was instrumental in improving the standards of passing amongst the away side. It was Sherbon who broke the deadlock five minutes into the half when a cross from long range got caught in the wind and deceived the home keeper and went in off the far post.
Penrhyn quickly doubled the lead when a through ball found pacy youngster David Griffiths in space and he sprinted towards goal crossing for Josh Shaw to tap in. Penrhyn made it three when another good through ball found this time found Shaw who fired a low drive to get his brace. Penrhyn now face Padarn in the semi-final.
TYWYN & BRYNCRUG RES. 2 PENRHYNCOCH RES. 2
Penrhyncoch Reserves missed the chance to go second and pressure Tregaron when they could only manage a draw away against Tywyn/Bryncrug Reserves. Having met twice in recent weeks, both being close encounters, this was bound to be a tight affair.
Penrhyn had included four players who had only recently turned sixteen and two were making their debuts. The away side started brightly enough with their pace causing problems for the Tywyn defence but they were getting frustrated by some strange decisions by the home linesman. Tywyn created some chances of their own but could only fire wide from distance.
In the second half it was Penrhyn who took the lead when a home defender passed straight to the impressive Anthony Hartnell who then went round the player and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper. Bizarrely, the home linesman started flagging for offside and this prompted a reaction from Hartnell who celebrated in front of him.
It took Tywyn less than two minutes to equalise when veteran Brian Wilkins stopped a ball from hitting him in the face and the home side were awarded a penalty with they scored. Tywyn then found themselves in front when Ben Sherbon was very harshly judged to have handled in the box. Jamie Powl, having already scored Tywyn's first penalty stepped up to double his and Tywn's score.
With the game nearing the end Tywyn had a defender sent off for fouling Gareth Hughes who was clean through and about to score. It seemed like a good decision by the home defender as Penrhyn could not convert the free kick. However, with five minutes remaining Penrhyn were awarded a penalty of their own and Hartnell stepped up to rescue a point.
Considering that exactly half the squad were still 18 or younger, the future looks good for the club and in the circumstances this will turn out to be a good result and a big learning curve for the players.
PENRHYNCOCH RES. 2 TYWYN & BRYNCRUG RES. 1
Penrhyncoch Reserves secured a spot in the Emrys Morgan Semi-Final with victory over Tywyn/Bryncrug Reserves. They had to work hard to win the game and the final score was 2-1 after extra time.
Having drawn with the home side only a few weeks earlier Tywyn arrived in buoyant mood hoping to go one better. It was the Cae Baker side however who started the better controlling possession early on and were creating chances with the impressive Jon Bailey delivering some quality crosses. Penrhyn dominated the first half and following a succession of corners almost broke the deadlock when Graham Thomas headed against the bar. Deian Thomas then had a goal ruled out for offside and it was looking as if it was going to be another frustrating afternoon in front of goal. With minutes remaining of the half and with the Penrhyn defence having never looked troubled Tywyn scored against the run of play with their first real chance. Having been so superior it was a big blow to the home side.
Penrhyn started the second half on the front foot with Tywyn looking to defend their lead and hit on the break. Penrhyn continued to make clear cut chances but still were struggling to beat the in form Tywyn keeper. Gareth Hughes then had a goal controversially ruled out for offside. With home nerves starting to get edgy they were awarded a penalty. Huw Jones stepped up to slot home. This sparked a revival from Tywyn who had to come out and play and the game opened up. Steve Hughes almost put Penrhyn ahead with a fierce drive that was met by an outstanding save.
Extra time commenced and a Hughes effort skidded off the bar. Penrhyn did not have to wait long for the winner as an unfortunate Tywyn defender handled in the box following a corner. Jones stepped up and put away the penalty but was ordered to retake as players had run into the area. He coolly replaced the ball and found the net once more.
The rest of extra time was played out with Tywyn having a good go at the home side but they just couldn't break the resistance of the home defence. Penrhyncoch now go on to meet Llandrindod in the next round.
PENRHYNCOCH RES. 4 UWA 3RDS 2
Penryhncoch Reserves progress through to the third round of the league cup after defeating UWA 3rds 4-2. The second division outfit will be proud of their performance as they pushed the League One title contenders all of the way producing some good football throughout. Indeed it was the away side that took a shock lead that came from a Penrhyn freekick high up the pitch. When the ball was cleared UWA broke quickly and within two passes Stefano Serra had fired an excellent low drive past Toby Spain .
Penrhyn were level within two minutes when a hopeful shot hit a divot and Owain James was first to react tapping in from close range. Penrhyn were now becoming more settled in possession and scored a second when Ben Sherbon headed in a freekick. Penrhyn made two more good chances in the first half but could not score the third.
The second half saw UWA play some good football and they got their reward after 65 minutes when Simon Macczak handled in the area. Peter Edwards stepped up to score the spot kick and give the home side the jitters. The goal sparked Penrhyn into life but only ten minutes were remaining when they goal the third. A good passing move found Jon Bailey in a wide postion and his pin point cross was met by James who got his second with an accurate header. The home side killed the game off in the dying minutes when promising sixteen year old David Griffiths took three defenders on and finished with a powerful right foot drive. Penrhyn will now play UWA Reserves in the next round.
Llanilar 0 Penrhyncoch Reserves 3
Penrhyncoch took all three points at Llanilar on a very awkward pitch to keep the pressure on at the top of the League one. In a game that saw very little quality because of the playing surface the away team will be pleased to come away from the game with the win.
Although Penrhyn had plenty of possession early on it was very difficult creating any clear chances and players were finding it extremely difficult dealing with the conditions. Llanilar should have taken the lead in the first half when a shot was saved by Toby Spain but the wind took the ball back past him and Llanilar's striker then shot against the bar; the ball dropped kindly to the oncoming Llanilar attack but desperate defending kept the score at zero. Penrhyn pressed on and debutant Mark Douglas Jones hit the post with a shot from inside the area. The away side then had to ride their luck again when a number of Llanilar shots went close.
The second half started better for Penrhyn who were using the wind to their advantage. They took the lead when a corner was headed straight out to a waiting Penrhyn player and a good cross was met by Jones who headed past the keeper. Penrhyn were now firmly in control and doubled the lead when Huw Jones broke down the right and fired a good shot into the net. The victory was complete when Dougie capped an excellent return to the Cae Baker club with his second, a right footed shot after some good work by Ben Sherbon. Penrhyn now look ahead to their League cup fixture next week against UWA Thirds and hope to continue the seasons good cup form.
PENRHYNCOCH RES. 5 FOUR CROSSES RES. 1
Penrhyncoch Reserves secured a quater final spot with an enphatic win of their Montgomeryshire visitors to set up a home tie againts either Tywyn & Bryncrug Res. or Abermule. Goals from Steve Hughes, Gareth Hughes, Ben Sherbon, John Bailey and an own goal were enough to see the home side win comfortably.
PENRHYNCOCH RES 1 TYWYN+BRYNCRUG RES 1
Penrhyncoch reserves missed the chance to got top of the table with a lacklustre draw against Tywyn Byncrug reserves. With five players missing Penrhyn brought in some of their talented youngsters. Penrhyn were under pressure early on with the physical nature of Tywyn's play proving hard to deal with. Penrhyn worked themselves back into the game and a number of half chances followed but to no avail.
It was the home side that took the lead midway through the first half when talented youngster Stephen Arnold scored from a corner. Penrhyn were looking dangerous from corners and went close to doubling the lead when Garteh Hughes went close.
The second half saw very little chances from either side and as the game went on it looked like the home side were to take all three point s and go top. However, it was Tywyn who were celebrating a great result when a mix up in the Penrhyn defence saw the Tywyn striker score from nine yards.
The draw was a fair result as Penrhyn never looked like killing the game off in the second period and now Penparcau will surely punish the Cae Baker side for dropping points.
PENRHYNCOCH RES. 4 ABERYSTWYTH 3RDS 2
Penrhyncoch Reserves welcomed Aberystwyth 3rds to Cae Baker on Saturday for what turned out to be a very exciting encounter. Aber managed by former player and manager Stan Richards arrived with a very young side but determined side having not played for almost two months. Aber started brightly and looked very dangerous on the break. It did not take long for them to make their quick attacks count and after six minutes were ahead when Adam Thomas broke free down the right and Toby Spain could only direct his powerful shot towards the oncoming Dan Sears. Penrhyn looked shell shocked and although they were having most of the possession were finding chances hard to come by.
Aber scored a second shortly after when a defensive error let in Gwion Ap Dafydd who found the top corner from twenty yards out. Penrhyn were well and truly under the cosh and Aber had two or three more good chances to extend their lead. Penrhyn switched players around as they looked to get back into the game. It seemed to work as Penrhyn now began to look far more like scoring with Huw Jones causing the away defence a great deal of problems. Penrhyn got a goal back when a break down the right outpaced their defence and a low drive was put in by an unfortunate Aber defender.
The momentum was now with Penrhyn and Jones set up Tim Turner who went close. Penrhyn then had a Jones goal disallowed and a penalty appeal turned down as the ref decided it was outside the area. Joe Sherwood was also denied a goal when a low drive was superbly saved by the impressive Aber keeper Jonathan Hartnell. Penrhyn were unlucky to be going in at half time losing but were in buoyant mood having got back into the game and creating so many chances.
The second half saw Penrhyn dominate possession early on and Turner went close with two chances. The equaliser was not long in coming as Steve Hughes broke up field to score with a neat finish. Chances continued to come for Penrhyn and there looked like there was only ever going to be one outcome. Sherwood put Penrhyn ahead with an excellent shot that flew into the top corner from just inside the area. Soon after Gareth Hughes(Talybont), making his first start since August due to injury, put the game to bed with a close range effort.
Penrhyn now sit second in the league just one point behind Tregaron and with a game in hand. The second half of the season now looks set to be very interesting indeed.
MACHYNLLETH 3 PENRHYNCOCH 0
The Christmas festivities proved to be the downfall of a few players on saturday which saw the 3rds travel to Mach. with 12 players and finish the match with 9. The first half was very even and saw a number of chances fall to both sides, but it was the home team who took the lead after 40 minutes and went in 1 up at half time. With the one and only sub used early in the second half, Penrhyn were under the cosh with 2 goals coming early on before the away side were reduced to 9 players after 2 players picked up injuries.
LLGC 1 v PENRHYNCOCH 3RDS 9
On a bone hard surface at Blaendolau on Sat our 3rds romped to an emphatic win over there opponents who to be fair battled all the way and never gave up - but there was no Christmas cheer for them as Penrhyn rattled up 7 goals in the first half - D Harries(2), S Davies(2), K Jones, D Griffiths On his debut and G K Hughes were on target.
With Penrhyn also giving 3 lads there debuts from the U17's all in all in was a good performance - youth with experience in the shape of Jones, Davies and Bailey. The National Library competed for everything in the second half and reduced the deficit when C James headed in from a corner - G Hughes however scored a 30 yard screamer and W Fox finished off the game.

PENRHYNCOCH U17's 6 v LLANYDYDDER 1
Another win for our U17's on Sat on a rock hard Cae Cwbwa ensured that the lads will be on top of the league for Christmas from nearest rivals Felinfach. Penrhyn started brightly but could not turn possession into goals and it was a break away by 10 man Llan who broke the deadlock - a shock looked on the cards - this was the first time the lads had been behind all season - for the next 10 mins or so they looked a bit edgy but parity was brought about by Ryan Davies who then made it 2-1 with a well taken penalty. David Griffiths made it 3 and now there was some air between the teams the result was never in doubt. 3-1 at half time soon became 4-1 when Neil Evans unleased a piledriver from fully 35 yards - an own goal then made it 5-1 before Adam Tourle not to be outdone scored from 30yds.
Full credit to Llanydydder who battled right to the end - there players were a credit to the club and to Manager Dave Fretwell - well done gentlemen.

NEWCASTLE (SHROPSHIRE) 3 PENRHYNCOCH RES. 3 (penrhyn win 4-3 on pens)
Penrhynoch Reserves made the long journey to take on Newcastle from the Mid Wales South league. A very exciting and nail biting game which saw six goals and plenty of drama. Penrhyn started the game well and looked dangerous by creating many early chances on a very difficult pitch. The away side took the lead when Josh Shaw made an excellent run, turned his man and was brought down inside the box. The youngster took the resulting penalty driving the ball low and hard down the middle.
Penrhyn seemed in complete control but following a Penrhyn freekick, Newcastle broke upfield and their pacy striker was brought down in the box. Fortunately for Penrhyn the penalty was fired over the bar. Penrhyn continued to pass the ball around and creating chances but were dealt a sucker blow right on half time when a Newcastle freekick was headed in by Jon Bailey following a mix up in defence.
The second half started much the same as the first with Penrhyn dominating possession but although they created numerous chances found it difficult to break the deadlock. It took twenty minutes for the goal to come but it was thoroughly deserved. A deep corner was headed towards goal by Gareth Hughes only for the keeper to make an excellent save. The ball looked as though it was going out but young defender Stephen Arnold kept it alive by knocking it back across goal and another Hughes header this time found the net.
Penrhyn were cruising towards the next round but remarkably Newcastle scored again with four minutes to play when Arnold brought down Newcastle striker in the box. It was hard luck for the Penrhyn youngster who had played extremely well in only his third game for the reserves. A well struck penalty was almost saved by Leigh Jenkins who managed to get both hands on the ball but the power got the better of him.
In dreadful conditions nobody really wanted extra time but another half hour was inevitable. Penrhyn pushed forward in an attempt to win the tie and were doing well until a quick counter attack caught the Penrhyn defence and Newcastle took the lead. Penrhyn could not believe they were losing after dominating the game and never really looking troubled by the Newcastle attacks. It looked as though they were going to be unlucky again in the competition they have never won and were foiled time and time again when they broke past the Newcastle defence. With two minutes to go Penrhyn pushed everyone forward and were rewarded just in time when Steve Hughes fired the ball into the top corner from close range.
Penalties it was and even more drama. Young keeper Leigh Jenkins making only his third senior appearance and his first in the reserves saved two penalties and was the hero of the day as Penrhyn scrape through to the next round.
PENRHYNCOCH RES. 1 LAMPETER 4
Penrhyncoch Reserves winning run finished at Cae Baker on Saturday when they were beaten by a very good and quick Lampeter side. Lampeter attacked the home side from the off and Penrhyn struggled to hold onto the ball. Penrhyn could not create many opportunities and it was the away side who looked most likely to score. The goal came as expected and was very well created with a number of good passes in the build up to the goal.
Lampeter pushed on looking for the second and attacked from the wings and the home side were glad to see half time at only one nil down. Penrhyn started the second half brightly but could not get an equaliser. It was Lampeter who scored next on the break with some very good movement, Terry Witts finishing with style and the goal deflated Penrhyn. Lampeter then scored another when the pace of their striker proved too much for the Penrhyn defence. Huw Jones pulled one back for the home side but it was Lampeter who ended the scoring with another well taken goal and it was a thoroughly deserved victory. A game to forget for Penrhyncoch reserves who have a big game next week in the Emrys Morgan.
PENRHYNCOCH 3RDS 1 DOLGELLAU RES. 1
Wayne Fox's injury time equaliser rescued a point for the thirds on saturday in a match they never looked like losing before Dolgellau took the lead. The away side featured a few first team players but Penrhyn more than matched them. In a goaless first half, Penrhyn took control in the second period and missed a number of good chances before the inevitable break away goal came with only 10 minutes left on the clock. With a free kick awarded in the dying seconds, vetran Graham Thomas flicked the ball forward to Fox and scored from all of 2 yards to secure a much deserved point for the home side.
RYAN's SEVENTH HEAVEN
ABERAERON U17's 2 v PENRHYNCOCH U17's 10
A rampant Penrhyn secured their 7th straight win in the Ceredigion U17 League on a wet and blustery Aberaeron on Sat morning. Ryan Davies led the way with a magnificent 'seven' goals, Christie Elwell, David Griffiths and Big WAZ - namely Wazir completed the scoring. Aberaeron had no answer to the pace and guile of Penrhyn's forwards or midfield and despite conceeding two goals late on never looked in any trouble at the back.
Aberaeron gave Penrhyn a stern test at Cae Baker earlier in the season and with both A Richardson and J Hartrick unavailable Penrhyn were expecting a harder match - but full credit to Aberaeron - they never gave up and scored an excellent frre-kick in the latter stages of the match as well as another consolation goal in the last minute.
Well done to the lads and especially Ryan Davies - this was a comprehensive team performance and hopefully the lads can take this form into their next match against Newcastle Emlyn during the week commencing 3rd December at Cae Baker Penrhyncoch.
Penrhyn have now scored 33 goals and conceeded 2 this campaign - Ryan Davies is top goalscorer with 10 goals followed by Josh Hartick with 7 goals.
Again my thanks to the superb support given to the boys by the parents for taking cars etc and getting soaked whilst watching the game - Rob, Mike, Gwilym and Mrs Bouchier - a BIG BIG thanks also to Neil Taxis for his help with transport, coffee etc.

PENRHYNCOCH RES. 2 LLANRHYSTUD 1
A Huw Jones double saw Penrhyncoch Reserves through to the third round of the Emrys Morgan in a very tense game Friday night. Llanrhystud turned up in defiant mood determined not too suffer another heavy defeat like the last encounter between the two sides. It was the visitors who almost took the lead in the opening minutes going close after some nervous defending by the Penrhyn defence. It took the home side a long time to get to grips with the hard working visitors and were finding it difficult to break down the defence.
However, they broke the deadlock after twenty minutes a Jon Bailey freekick was chested down by Jones and he calmly slotted past the keeper from close range. The home side settled and started to pass the ball around and got their second when Fergus Morris made a powerful run into the penalty area and was tripped from behind. Jones stepped up to score the penalty. Llanrhystud almost pulled one back before half time but were foiled by an outstanding reflex save from veteran keeper Kevin Jenkins.
The second half started much the same as the first with Llanrhystud working hard to pull one back. As they pushed forward they were also getting caught on the break and Penrhyn youngster Josh Shaw went close with two efforts. Llanrhystud got one back though when a freekick was met with a fierce drive at the back post and when Jenkins tipped the ball onto the bar it dropped nicely for Llanrhystud and they forced it over the line.
Llanrhystud ran out of steam as the game progressed and it was Penrhyn who looked the more likely to score the next goal. Another of the youngsters Deian Thomas twice hit he woodwork late on and Huw Jones almost got his hatrick when he had a close range effort stopped on the line. The game finished 2-1 and Penrhyn were made to work extremely hard for this win. They now travel to Newcastle from the Mid Wales South League in the next round.
PENRHYNCOCH U17's 8 v CARDIGAN 0
Penrhyn's youngsters continued on their winning ways with an excellent win against Cardigan Town by 8 goals to nil on Cae Baker on 1/11/07. There were fireworks in the air and on the pitch as Penrhyn ran riot with goals from J Hattrick (3), D Griffiths, A Richards, R Davies (2) and D Thomas - a good all round performance and what the most pleasing aspect was the pace and sheer determination of all the squad to get in on the action - well done lads - keep it up - the next scheduled match is away to title rivals Felinfach on Sat 10/11/07.
TEAM - JENKINS,HARVEY(EVANS 40),EVANS(LEWIS 40),ARNOLD,MORGAN,GRASHAM(GEORGE 50),TOURLE(ELWELL 50),DAVIES(JAMES 50),GRIFFITHS(SOUTH 39),THOMAS(WOOLLEY 50)(BOUCHIER 65),HATTRICK(RICHARDS 50).
NEW QUAY 0 PENRHYNCOCH RES. 3
In the Cwpan Ceredigion, Costcutter league leaders New Quay took on in form Cambrian Tyres outfit Penrhyncoch reserves. It was New Quay who started the brightest with a number of attacks and they almost opened the scoring forcing the ever dependable Kevin Jenkins into a fine save.
It took five minutes for the visitors to settle but once they did they took control of the game. Penrhyn took the lead on eleven minutes when captain Gethin Williams lashed the ball into the top corner from a free kick 25 yards out. Penrhyn were now dominant and were putting the home defence under intense pressure. It wasn’t long before the pressure brought a second goal when Josh Shaw ran at the defence before finding the corner of the net with a low drive.
New Quay were finding it hard to get back into the game and were finding it difficult to create any attacks whilst looking very venerable at the back and were probably glad to get to half time just two nil down. However, they started the second half with a renewed optimism and attacked Penrhyn immediately from the restart. The Penrhyn defence coped well with the onslaught and settled back into possession. As New Quay pushed on looking for a goal Penrhyn continued to create chances at the other end and got their third when Gareth Hughes’ pace took him past the last defender and he kept his composure to fire past the keeper. It could have been more late on as Penrhyn wasted some good opportunities but it did not matter as the young away side go through comfortably to meet Lampeter in the next round.
PENRHYNCOCH 3RDS 1 BOW STREET RES. 1
Both sides will feel that they could have won this game after 90 minutes but will be satisfied with a point each. Having had late withdrawals on saturday morning, Penrhyn could only field 11 players against a very experienced Bow Street side and they took the lead after 10 minutes when Wayne Fox volleyd home from close range. The visitors leveled soon after when Ian Evans' good work down the left saw he score past Leigh Jenkins in goal. A highly entertaining match saw no other goals but there were plenty of chances at both ends, Brian Wilkins with Penrhyn's best effort when his chip from outside the penalty box hit the post.
UWA RES 0 PENRHYNCOCH RES. 3
Penrhyncoch Reserves continue their winning run with a comfortable victory over UWA Reserves in Division One. Penrhyn saw a number of changes to their squad due to call ups to the first team but demonstrated their strength in depth in this one sided encounter. Penrhyn dominated first half possession and had an early goal ruled out for offside. Josh Shaw then went close hitting the crossbar with a ferocious shot. However, it was the impressive Deian Thomas, making his first start for the reserves since transferring from Aber Town , who opened the scoring. A neat ball played through the defense, this time beating the offside trap saw Thomas slot the ball into the bottom corner.
UWA tried to hit back but came up against a formidable Penrhyn defence that included the impressive youngster Stephen Arnold, another making his first start for the reserves. Five minutes later Thomas got his second when he challenged the keeper for a high ball. The keeper dropped the ball at his feet and Thomas tapped it into the empty net. Penrhyn started the second half looking to kill off UWA hopes of a comeback and the third wasn’t long in coming. A Jon Bailey free kick fizzed across the goal and Fergus Morris put it in at the back post. A good win for the away team who will now look to next week where they take on New Quay in the Cwpan Ceredigion.
PENRHYNCOCH 3RDS 1 UWA 3RDS 2
Penrhyn 3rds suffered a setback in the second division when they were well beaten by the students' 3rd team. The scorline didn't show a true reflection of the game and the home side should have lost by a bigger margin. Only a late Graham Thomas goal brought any comfort for Kevin Jenkins as his side were second best for a large periods, but he would have been very proud when his son Leigh came on to make his debut after 75 minutes and also Christie Elwell (son of the legendary ex-manager Lenny) both of which play in Penrhyn's under 17 side who are currently top of their league. This will encourage 'Bones' as his youngsters are coming of age and will soon feature more and more in the 2nds and 3rds.
NEWCASTLE EMLYN U17 0 PENRHYNCOCH U17 2
An excellent away win for the Under 17's on Tuesday 16/10/07 maintained their excellent start to the campaign by recording their 4th win in as many outings - Penrhyn started well with Hattrick,South and Griffiths causing all sorts of problems for the NCE rearguard and Ryan Davies took full advantage after 14 mins when he cooly beat the offside trap(?) to slot home.
Emlyn then came back into the game and Olly Evans was causing a few problems but was restricted to half chances. Matt Leonard in midfield was having a real tussle with Grasham and both had good talkings to by the Ref before half-time. 1 - 0 to Penrhyn at the interval.
The second half was a real good contest and Penrhyn's rearguard was forced to readjust when Lewis was forced off the field with an injury - this lead to Morgan having an outstanding match at the heart of defence. Jenkins in goal who was celebrating his 16th birthday had a faultless display and when Griffiths scored with an excellent header from a Grasham corner on 55 mins the match became more academic. Josh Hattrick had an imense presence on the match and indeed Penrhyn could have gone further ahead as Emlyn pushed players up. The win keeps the momentum going and with this weeks game called off by Llandysul due to the unavailability of their Manager the next game is scheduled away in Llanybydder on 27/10/07.
Well done lads.
TEAM: JENKINS,EVANS,MORGAN,LEWIS,(ELWELL 55),EVANS,GRIFFITHS,GRASHAM,TOURLE,DAVIES(GEORGE 60),SOUTH(JAMES 60) and HATTRICK.
PENRHYNCOCH RES 3 ABERDYFI 3 (penrhyn win on penalties)
Penrhyncoch Reserves keeper Dave Gregory produced heroics as the home side scraped through to the League cup second round beating Aberdyfi on penalties. This tie produced a thrilling encounter with six excellent goals and some extremely good football by both sides.
Aberdyfi arrived at Cae Baker in confident mood having had a good start in the league and almost took the lead in the sixth minute when a shot was deflected onto the post. Penrhyncoch then went close at the other end before the away team broke the deadlock when a corner was headed in on twelve minutes. This sparked a fightback from Penrhyn who started passing the ball about and creating openings but Aberdyfi always looked dangerous on the break. It took until the 25th minute for an equaliser when James Shields flashed the ball across the penalty areas and Owain James slid the ball in at the back post. The game was incredibly open at this stage and Aberdyfi scored a second before the break when they latched onto a mistake in the Penrhyn defence and their pacy striker produced a composed finish.
The second half again saw both teams create early chances but it was Penrhyn that began to take control of possession. It was Fergus Morris who scored Penrhyn’s equaliser with a superb volley form 30 yards out giving the keeper no chance as the ball flew into the top corner. Penrhyn then took the lead for the first time in the match when Wayne Fox rifled home another long range effort and Penrhyn only had fifteen minutes to hold on. However, the lead only lasted 7 minutes because Aberdyfi scored with another excellent first time shot from the edge of the home sides penalty area.
Extra time brought more intense action as Penrhyn went looking for a winner with Aberdyfi always trying to hit them on the break. Penrhyn missed two excellent opportunities to win the match so penalties were inevitable. Dave Gregory in the Penrhyncoch goal was outstanding, getting his hands to the first two penalties and saving the last two. It was a game neither side deserved to lose and it was very hard for Aberdyfi who produced some outstanding passing and movement on the day.
CORRIS 1 PENRHYNCOCH 3RDS 4
Penrhyn 3rds continued their fine start to the season with a comfordable win at Corris on the usual tricky pitch. Two goals each for Stuart Davies and Brian Wilkins netted all 3 points for Kevin Jenkins' side. Corris very rarely threatend and were greatful in the end to keep the score to just 4-1 as Penrhyn's mix of youth and experience were more than enough to see them home. Steven Arnold contiunes to impress and will soon find himself playing in a higher standard along with a few others as they gain more and more experience in adult football.
PENRHYNCOCH RES. 2 DOLGELLAU 1
Penrhyncoch reserves go top of the Cambrian Tyres league after a hard fought win against Dolgellau at Cae Baker. The game started brightly with Dolgellau attacking the home team with a very pacey front line and the first ten minutes were very open with chances being created both ends. However, it wasn’t long before Penrhyn settled into their passing style and began to control possession.
Though the home side were beginning to turn their possession into chances it looked as if it were to be another frustrating day as chance after chance went begging. Penrhyn’s Ashley Stevens was causing the visitors all sorts of problems on the right of midfield and on 40 minutes Jorge Martinez was dismissed for an elbow to the head of the promising Penrhyn youngster.
The second half began as the first finished with Penrhyn by far the more dominant team but failing to capitalise on their opportunities. As Dolgellau pushed their remaining ten men behind the ball, the poor Penrhyncoch finishing was becoming extremely frustrating. The result of missed chances at one end was inevitably punished at the other as a rare counter attack by the visitors produced a goal for Sion Williams who squeezed the ball in through a cluster of Penrhyn defenders.
Penrhyn pushed even more men forward and came extremely close when a long range Jon Bailey strike hit the bar. The ball rebounded perfectly for substitute Martin Evans but he could only volley it over the bar. As the half progressed it increasingly looked as if it was not meant to be Penrhyn’s day but they got an equaliser when a Gareth Hughes shot was saved and Evans this time found the net with the rebound.
By now Penrhyn were throwing everyone forward in their search for a winner and they got their reward when their inspirational captain Gethin Williams was brought down in the box. Huw Jones stepped up to coolly slot the penalty away for a very hard earned victory. Unfortunately the winner brought more indiscipline form the Dolgellau players after they had battled hard all afternoon and they let themselves down with two more players being sent off before the final whistle.
Penrhyncoch Reserves have now won four on the bounce and the league looks as if it is going to continue to be extremely interesting this season.
PENRHYNCOCH 3RDS 3 TRAWSCOED 0
After last weeks defeat it was vital that our 3rds returned to firstly a fuul squad and secondly a positive result. This they achieved on Sat with a comprehensive win over a battling Trawscoed side who to be fair never gave up for the full 90 minutes. Penrhyn started brightly and dominated possession from the start but some wayward finishing and over playing from the home side meant that they failed to break down a resolute defence.
Trawscoed grew with confidence as the half progressed but were restricted to long range efforts which rarely troubled Jenkins in the home goal. Half time 0-0. The 2nd half started with Penrhyn pushing young Deian Thomas up front alongside Harries and Wilkins and within 10 mins of the restart a Thomas effort was saved by the visiting keeper only for Harries to pounce on the rebound to open the scoring - after 65 mins a fine Ioan Richards run from left back after an excellent ball from Kevin Jones doubled the scoring and with 20 mins to go the result was put beyond doubt when Thomas rounded of the scoring with a well taken effort. Penrhyns Arnold had a fine game in defence ably assisted by veteran Thomas.
Trawscoed never gave up to be fair and Penrhyn were able to ring the changes to see out the match and secure a valueable 3 points

PENRHYNCOCH U17'S 2 v ABERAERON U17'S 0
Penrhyns U17's maintained there excellent start to their campaign with a fine win over Aberaeron on Monday evening under the Cae Baker floodlights - with Aberaeron not having picked up a point so far this season it was somewhat surprising that they gave Penrhyn there sternest test todate in what was an entertaining game played in a excellent spirit in front of a large following.
Penrhyn again started well and with pace throughout the team created a few half changes which Hattrick and Davies were unlucky not to score however it was Aberaeron who came closest to scoring when a pile driver bought out an excellent reaction save from Jenkins which was scrambled to safety. Grasham and Tourle were having a torrid time in the middle of the park but defensively were looking solid. Half time 0-0.
Penrhyn introduced Deian Thomas at half-time and his pace/agression and experience showed when afer 6 mins of the restart excellent work by Woolley enabled Thomas to finish with some aplomb. Penrhyn now had there noses in front and with there pace were able to push for a second goal which was duly supplied again by Thomas in the 60th minute. An excellent effort by Harvey who won two strong tackles before unleashing a brilliant strike to be denied by an excellent save by the visiting keeper. Well done lads keep it up. Penrhyn will be visiting fellow unbeaten side Newcastle Emlyn next in what looks likely to be a cracker.
TEAM - JENKINS,HARVEY,EVANS,GRIFFITHS,MORGAN,WOOLLEY(RICHARDS 55), TOURLE(ELWELL 60),GRASHAM,GEORGE(THOMAS 40),DAVIES(HATTRICK 75) and HATTRICK(JAMES 70)
PENRHYNCOCH RES. 7 LLANRHYSTUD 0
Llanrhystud arrived at Cae Baker looking for their 3rd win of the season but it wasn’t to be as Penrhyncoch proved far too strong scoring seven goals with no reply. Confident from their excellent win against Penparcau, Penrhyn started the game with a high tempo and clever passing. It only took 7 minutes for the home side to take the lead as Josh Shaw ran at the Llanrhystud defence before cutting the ball back for Gareth Hughes to tap the ball in. Penrhyn did not stop there and with Shaw in excellent form he added another three minutes later.
Llanrhystud were shell shocked and were struggling to cope with the pace of Penrhyn’s attacks. A break down the left brought the third goal with Ashley Stevens coolly finding the bottom corner. Penrhyn by now were firmly in control as they were winning everything in the air and controlling possession. A Penrhyn corner brought the fourth as the impressive Jon Bailey out jumped the defender with the ball finding Owain James to put the ball into the net. Gareth Hughes added the fifth on 36 minutes with an emphatic finish.
The second half saw started slowly but Llanrhystud could have scored had it not been for a fine save from Dan Pritchard. That stirred the home team who had taken their foot off the gas and Shaw completed his hatrick on the hour when he broke free of the defence and rifled the ball into the corner of the goal. Hughes got his brace shortly after as an excellent Huw Jones long range effort cannoned off the bar to find Hughes in space in the box to round off an excellent team performance.
Penrhyncoch reserves put in an excellent team performance to beat Penparcau 1-0. Penrhyn were looking to bounce back from a narrow defeat to Tregaron where they only had 11 fit players available. However, with a full squad they proved too strong for their opponents and in the 1st half were by far the better team. Penrhyn began brightly and were solid in defence whilst controlling midfield. Although Penparcau hit the post early on it was one way traffic with Penrhyn dominating possession and creating a number of good chances. The home side were playing some excellent passing football and were disappointed to go in at half time with no score. The 2nd half began as the 1st ended with Penrhyn pushing for the opener with Gareth Hughes looking lively and dangerous up front. Then, midway through the half they took the lead when a Joe Sherwood shot deflected off Martin Evans' back to wrong foot the keeper. Penparcau pushed with 15 minutes to go in search of the equaliser but it was not to be as the home team's defence remained solid and with good work from Dan Pritchard in goal. It was a well deserved victory for Penrhyn and Penparcau must now recover as they take on Tregaron next saturday.
Penrhyncoch Reserves' unbeaten start lasted all of 1 game as Llanilar took the points at Cae Baker. In a totaly one sided match Llanilar took the lead after 15 mins with a quality header from a corner. The next 75 mins was all one way traffic with the visitors camped in their own half, but credit to them they defended with a lot of heart and determination. Penrhyn should have scored on a number of occassions but were thwarted by some fine goalkeeping and some bad luck. Dissapointing result but these games don't happen very often and with a strong squad, Jonny's boys are sure to bounce back
2308/07
Jonny (Bobble) Evans' first game in charge since the resignation of Barry Rowlands ended in a comfortable 2.0 away victory at Aberdyfi. In what is always a tricky place to go, Penrhyn's second string produced a proffessional and disaplined performance. A goal in each half from Ashley Stephens and Martin Evans secured the 3 points for the team who now face Llanilar on wednesday at Cae Baker.
Penrhyn Red Dragons had an excellent 3-2 win against a tough tackling Bow Street side on Saturday morning down on the Penweddig pitch - these youngsters have mads an remarkable improvement this season and are now beginning to play as a unit - well done to the coaching team Geriant and Kev.
The U11's played Borth on the same morning and despite been held at half-time 0-0 they stepped up a gear in the second half and they say cometh the hour cometh the man - well it was an Amy Jenkins hatrick that stole the show in the second period - bringing her goal tally this season for Penrhyn U11's to 21.
On Sunday morning our U15 girls met at 10.30am for the trip to play Newcastle Emly
