Season Over

Penrhyn finished a dissmal season with a 2-0 defeat at Denbigh and once again failed to score. In a season of much promise at the start, the lack of goals have proved costly, with Penrhyn being the 2nd worst side for goals scored. The loss of Gavin Allen, Sion Meredith and Tony Jones have been a huge blow for the side and must be addressed for next season.

Creditable Draw

Penrhyn earned a hard faught draw away to Llandudno on saturday which included 7 teenagers. With several regular faces missing, Gavin Allen had a chance to see if the youngsters were capeable of steping up to the Cymru Alliance. He wasn't dissapointed either with some determined defending, he saw his side hold out third placed Llandudno and earn a fantastic result. The home side had the majority of the play and the chances with Penrhyn causing little in the opposition's penalty box.

Brave Penrhyn Lose To Champions

League champions, Prestatyn, proved why they will play league of Wales football next year when they had to dig deep to overcome a spirited performance from Penrhyncoch. With the scores level with only 15 minutes to go, it looked like both sides were content with a point each before Prestatyn hit 2 goals in as many minutes through Mike Parker and Steve Bowes. Earlier, the home side had again missed some good chances to upset the form book but Prestatyn showed why they were crowned champions with some deadly finishing.

Shaw Earns Penrhyn Another Point

Two goals from teenager Josh Shaw in the last 10 minutes ensured a point for Penrhyn against a strong GAP side. The away side were by far the best side in this encounter and would have been dissapointed if they came away with nothing. Kevin Breeze put GAP ahead after 27 minutes in what was a tight first half but, the second half proved to be all Penrhyn with chances falling at regular intervals. Against the run of play, Breeze scored his second with only 15 minutes to go but it was Josh Shaw who stole the headlines with a brace in the dying minutes. Newly crowned champions, Prestatyn are the visitors on saturday which could prove to be a sterner test for Gavin Allen's men.

Battling Point For Penrhyn

A superb second half come back secured a point for Penrhyn on saturday when they could have been dead and buried in the first half. Flint were guilty of some glaring misses in the first period before Gavin Allen changed the system at half time. The visitors scored after 14 minutes when Phil Lloyd's glancing header found the net after some good work down the touchline. Penrhyn were rarely in the game until the changes and soon began to dominate the match, vetran Iwan Roberts' goal with 25 minutes to go braught the score level but he will be ruing 2 great chances to secure all 3 points. Penrhyn now travel on wednesday night to play money bags, GAP Queens Park.

Penrhyn Lose On Penalties

TNS denied Penrhyn the chance of some siverware this year when they overcame a penalty shootout after 120 minutes couldn't seperate the teams. Josh Shaw had put Penrhyn ahead after 38 minutes before TNS levelled with 5 minutes to go. The TNS goalkeeper had a match to remember, pulling off a number of fine saves to keep his side in the game. Richard Morgan on the other hand was a virtual spectator for most of the second period when time and time again Penrhyn missed golden chances to kill the tie. It's back to league action this weekend when Flint travel to Cae Baker.

Penrhyn Pick Up Valueable Point

Gavin Allen's young side picked up what could be another priceless point on saturday when they shared the spoils against an experienced Mydydd Isa side. They might have sneaked all 3 but for a penalty awarded against them with only 8 minutes remaining. Anthony Hartnell had previously put the visitors ahead with his first goal of the season after good work from Dylan James and Tim Turner which allowed him to chip the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper. Allen will be delighted with the last 2 results, and with games in hand, should start pulling away from the drop zone.

Penrhyn Net Crucial Win

Penrhyncoch eased their relegation fears with an easy win against Llandyrnog on wednesday night. Goals from Huw Jones and Tim Turner secured all 3 points in a match they totaly dominated from the start. Having slipped to second from bottom after Lex's surprise victory against Flint on tuesday night, Gavin Allen's men knew the importance of this game. Llandyrnog rarely troubled the defence of Turner, Hughes and Thomas and should have won by a larger margin if only the home side could finish off some decent chances. With a number of games in hand of their fellow strugglers, Penrhyn travel to Mynydd Isa on saturday looking to build on this performance and try to secure a result which will see them play Cymru Alliance football once again next year.

Getting Tighter

Penrhyn find themselves in deeper trouble after yet another defeat at the weekend to lowly Ruthin Town. In difficult conditions it was the away side who adapted better and fully deserved the win with two second half goals against a strong breeze. Penrhyn managed to hold Ruthin at bay during the first half knowing they had the advantage of the wind in the second period but, failed to capitalise with a shocking display. Matt Davies broke the deadlock after 52 minutes before Mark Egan leveled with 25 minutes to go. Mark Douglas Jones' bazzar own goal settled matters with only 10 minutes left on the clock with the home side never threatening to take a share of the points. Penrhyn travel to Denbigh on monday looking for points once again, things are getting to close for comfort at the bottom.

Relegation Dog Fight

Buckley ran out 3-2 winners on saturday in this vital 6 pointer and plunged Penrhyn deeper into relegation trouble. A goal 5 minutes from time was enough to see the away side take the spoils when it looked certain that Penrhyn would take the crucial points to steer them away from the bottom. Chris Wilkins' goal mid way through the second half saw the home side take a 2-1 lead only to be denied by two late strikes. With Lex, Ruthin and Gresford winning, Gavin Allen's side now face the prospect of ending the season needing to win at least 3 more matches if they are to be in the Cymru Alliance next season.

Penrhyn Cruise To Semis

Penrhyn made it through to the last four of the central Wales cup with an easy victory over a sorry looking Kerry side. The game was never in any doubt when Mark Egan scored early in the first half, but it was Dylan James with 3 goals which proved the visitors' downfall and with further goals from Tim Turner, Chris Wilkins and an own goal, Penrhyn marched on to the semis where they will join TNS and Aberystwyth. It's back to league action next saturday when they entertain Buckley in another crucial match at Cae Baker, Buckley are below Penrhyn at present, so 3 points are vital to give the home side some daylight from the others.

Three second half goals from the home team saw Penrhyn's 100% record at Llandyrnog disapear on saturday. Leading 1-0 at half time through a Dylan James goal, the visitors were totaly outplayed in the second half with goals coming from Mark Roberts and two from Craig Wilkinson. Bala Blues Once Again

Penrhyn's awfull record against Bala continued on tuesday night with a narrow 1-0 defeat at Maes Tegid. There was little to choose between the sides with a solitary strike from Llion Roberts after 33 minutes proving to be the winner. Bala, still hoping to get promoted, started the brightest with constant pressure applied for the first 20 minutes before the away settled down and got more and more into the game. The second half was much as the first in that there was nothing to seperate the sides, Penrhyn matching a strong Bala team in every department. James Shields' effort with 10 minutes to go was Penrhyn's best chance, the tall centre half missing a golden opportunity to level the match and to earn the visitors a deserved point.

Allen's Relief

A superb brace from Dylan James secured all 3 points for Penrhyn on saturday when they beat fellow strugglers Gresford 3-1 in what was a must win game for the home side. James Shields opened the scoring 3 minutes before the break with a well directed header before Dylan James chipped in with his double to ease Gavin Allens relegation worries. Penrhyn face a tough mid-week trip to in form Bala where their record against them is shocking, Bala have won 8 out of 9 games since both teams were promoted in the same year and Allen knows this will be a tough ask for his young side.

Same Old Story

Penrhyn's inability to score goals was once again the story at Buckley on saturday. For long periods of the match, it was the away team which dominated the game but failed to find the net at the right end. Joe Sherwood's own goal after 15 minutes was enough for Buckley to secure three vital points in their quest to avoid relegation. Dylan James came closest to scoring for Penrhyn, but missed a golden chance from 8 yards out to add to Gavin Allen's worries. Penrhyn now face fellow strugglers, Gresford, at home next week in what is a crucial 6 pointer for both sides.

Dyffryn Banw took a shock lead early in the match but the visitors came back strongly with goals from Mark Egan, Chris Wilkins, Gareth Hughes, Josh Shaw and an own goal. Penrhyn Earn Point

Penrhyn secured a well deserved point against third placed Holyhead on saturday but could well have snatched all 3 points in the dying seconds. Dylan James saw his last minute effort rebound off the post in a dramatic end to the game. It was the away team who started stronger when constant preasure resulted in a goal from Marc Evans after 20 minutes in a half totaly dominated by Holyhead. The half time team talk worked wonders for the hosts as they mounted a spirited comeback with Chris Wilkins netting after 50 minutes. With Penrhyn pushing forward once again, they were caught on the break and Marc Evans calmly rounded Richard Morgan to score his second of the match. With another defeat looming, sub Josh Shaw ensured Gavin Allen's men of a point they fully deserved.

Flint Fire Four

Penrhyncoch's bad patch continued on saturaday with a 4-0 defeat against a very good Flint side. Gavin Allen's side has now failed to score in their last 4 league matches but once again created plenty of chances to make a game of it. Paul Davies opened the scoring for the home side after 33 minutes, with John Hill making it 2-0 just before the half time interval. Two further goals from the experienced Graham Randels and Sean Beck secured all 3 points for Flint as they try and push Prestatyn for the top spot. Llandudno proved that with experience in the side you can challenge for honours. The scoreline of 3-0 was flatering for them but they made the most of the chances that were on offer. Penrhyn more that matched them on several occasions but once again failed to score and now face a tough trip to Bala on tuesday. Chris Hogg opened the scoring for the away side after 15 minutes and it was soon 2-0 when Jodie Hamilton pounced on a re-bound after a good save from Toby Spain. The second half started brightly for Penrhyn with Dylan James, Tim Turner and James Shields missing golden chances before Lee Thomas' header with 5 mintues to go sealed the victory for Llandudno. A hearting performance with plenty of effort but, without the experience Penrhyn will continue to find it difficult.

No Slip Up For Penrhyn

Chris Wilkins' solitary goal was enough for Penrhyn to go through to the next round of the regional cup in what could have been a very tricky tie. After some heavy drubbings in the past weeks, it was a welcome relief for player boss Gavin Allen to see his young side totally dominate this game from the first whistle. Kicking down everest in the first half, Carno defended well with the away team guilty of some howling misses, Elwyn Edwards and Martin Naughton going close to name just a few. It took a neat finish on the hour from Chris Wilkins to break the deadlock and Carno's stubborn resistance to ensure Penrhyn's name goes into the hat for the next round.

Former Champions To Strong

Penrhyn faced another miserable journey home from Anglesey when they were easily beaten by a strong and experienced Glantraeth side. With Graham Thomas and Kevin Jenkins included in the side, Gavin Allen hoped to provide more experience in a side that seems to get younger and younger every week. Even with the forty plus players, the average age of the side barely reaches 22 and this proved to be the difference between the 2 sides. Jon Peris Jones' first half hatrick was always enough for the home side, with Chris Saxton completing the scoring early on in the second half.

Penrhyn Lose To Basement Boys

A youthfull Penrhyn side were soundly beaten by the league's bottom side on saturday and now find themselves back in a relegation dog fight. With Dylan James being the oldest at 26 years old, they were rearely in the game with Lex taking their chances which were handed out on a plate. A dire goaless first half produced very little action before 3 goals in 14 minutes ensured Lex of their first home win of the season. Gary Pendlington, Jamie McNeil and Joe Garner pilled further misery on Gavin Allen's side who now take on in form Flint on saturday.

Brave Effort Not Enough

PRESTATYN TOWN  2  PENRHYNCOCH  1

Steve Bowes' strike with 12 minutes left of normal time was enough to shatter Penrhyn's hopes of securing a point. The 2006-7 leading scorer denied the away side of a battling point in a wind swept Prestatyn but Gavin Allen can take a lot of positives away from the game as they showed they can match any team on their day. In a one sided first half, Prestatyn took the lead after 35 minutes when Dave Hayes scored but were foiled time and time again by some strong defending by Penrhyn. With the wind behind them second half, Penrhyn stated to look more dangerous and were rewarded with a goal when Chris Wilkins leveled after 70 minutes only to be harshly denied a result in the dieing minutes.

Penrhyn Ease Worries

Penrhyncoch 3  Guilsfield  2

A Mark Egan wonder goal from 40 yards helped Penrhyn on their way to a valuable 3 points on Wednesday night, in what should have been a much more convincing win. The scoreline didn't reflect the true one sided outcome of this match with the home side wasting a number of good chances throughout the game. Chris Wilkins set the ball rolling with a calm finish after 15 minutes before Egan unleashed his right foot and hamered the ball into the top corner of the Guilsfield net in what is surelly one of the goals of the season. Two up at the break, Penrhyn started the second half as they finished the first and could have sealed the game when Tony Jones missed a one on one effort in the opening minutes. Guilsfield rarely threatened but after 65 minutes Simon Edwards pulled one back before Chris Wilkins' lob restored Penrhyn's two goal advantage. Back came the away side when Edwards scored his second to give Gavin Allen a tense last 15 minutes but Penrhyn held on well to secure the 3 points.

Poor Show

PENRHYNCOCH  2  LLANFAIR PG  4

Three second half goals in 8 minutes for Llanfairpwll proved costly for Penrhyncoch as they suffered their third home defeat in the league this season. Defencive problems at the back were evident again as the away side fully deserved the 3 points. Without Dave Gregory in goal, this scoreline would and should have been a lot more when time and time again Llanfair cut through the devence with ease. Penrhyn did however score first with a Elwyn Edwards header after 34 minutes and went into the break 1 up, but what followed in the second half will give boss Gavin Allen sleepless nights as his team have now conceded 14 goals in their last three matches. Only a late Dylan James goal braught some hope when he pulled the score back to 3-2 but, straight from kick off  Llanfair broke away again to finish off the contest and make the scoreline more realistic for the visitors. Penrhyn now face Flint next saturday who look as though are conceding as many goals, get ready to take your shoes and socks off to count the goals.

Holyhead Hiding

HOLYHEAD  6  PENRHYNCOCH  0

Penrhyn suffered their biggest defeat since rejoining the Cymru Alliance at Holyhead on saturday. Having never won in the Anglesey town they were no match to a side who were full of effort and commitment. Two goals after 11 and 13 minutes set the tone for the match which saw the home team score another 4 goals in the second half to complete a misserable journey back for Gavin Allen's men. Dylan James' effort was the closest Penrhyn came to scoring when he hit the bar but, Penrhyn were always second best. They must now pick themselves up for the visit of Llanfair PG on saturday, this being one of three games on the trot at home.

Money Bags To Strong

Penrhyncoch 2 GAP Queen's Park 4

Penrhyn bowed out of the league cup at the very first hurdle against a powerful and experienced Queen's Park side. The home side got off to a poor start after they conceded a goal after just 8 mintues when a Wyn Jones free kick found the top corner of  Dave Gregory's goal. It soon became 2-0 when the much travelled Kevin Leech scored his first of three to ensure the away team went in at half time leading by 2 goals. The second half prooved to be a similar outcome with GAP incresing their lead to 4-0 only for Penrhyn to score 2 late goals from Ben Sherbon, on his full debut, and a Tony Jones penalty which made the scorline a little more respectful. Player boss Gavin Allen was not downhearted as he saw a young Penrhyn side compete with one of the strongest in the league, but he must now concentrate all his efforts to the bread and butter of the league when they travel the other side of the world to Holyhead on saturday in which he can welcome back a few players.

Great Win At Gresford

Penrhyncoch climed 5 places in the league table after this fine away win at strugglers Gresford. Two goals in the first 4 minutes set up a comfortable victory for the away side, Tim Turner and a Dylan James 30 yard free kick got Penrhyn off to a perfect start. Gresford did manage to pull a goal back after 12 minutes through Ian Matthias but Penrhyn never looked to be in any trouble and wasted a number of good chances before Tony Jones scored in the dying minutes. Liam Hinton-Jones and Anthony Hartnell both made their long awaited debuts when they came on after 60 minutes. After the match, Gavin Allen described the victory as a  'solid and professional performance'  and will now look to have a run in the league cup, starting with money bags, GAP Queen's Park at home in the first round next saturday.

Penrhyn's Hopes Dashed

A dream 3rd round tie like Llanelli the previous year was not to be as GAP Queen's Park proved too strong and powerful for Penrhyn. The Chelsea of the Cymru Alliance have amased a team from all over place this season and will feature in the top regions of the league without a doubt. The visitors were hampered after 20 minutes when player boss Gavin Allen was forced off the pitch with a badly twisted knee which could see him sidelined for up to a month. GAP quickly opened a 2-0 lead before Tony Jones' spot kick reduced the deficit after a hand ball prevented a goal and also saw GAP reduced to 10 men. Chances were created after the dissmisal but a defensive error reinstated a 2 goal advantage to take GAP into the fourth round.

3 Goals 3 Points

Penrhyn recorded their first home win of the season with a comfortable 3-0 win against an in form Lex side. The home team started the brightest and were soon 1 up when Chris Wilkins was fouled in the area  to give player boss Allen his 5th goal of the season. The score was doubled after 30 minutes when a low drive from Joe Sherwood crept past the goalkeeper before reaching the net to give Penrhyn a 2 goal advantage going into the break. Previously, Lex were reduced to 10 men when a dangerous takle on Iwan Roberts saw red for one of their players. The second half was a dire 45 minutes but Allen's men were always in control with man of the match Dylan James completing the scoring in the last minute when his cross/shot flew past the stranded goalie to give a much welcomed result and lifted the side out of the bottom 4. Penrhyn now face GAP Queen's Park in the 2nd round of the Welsh Cup next saturday and then the League cup the week after against the same opposition.

Iwan Roberts' effort 15 minutes from time was enough to secure a hard earned point for Penrhyncoch in Llanfair PG. Having trailed 3 times in the match, Allen's men will be delighted to come home with a result after some disapointing performances in the league of late. Llanfair had the perfect start when the referee awarded a disputed penalty after 20 minutes, Kevin Roberts converting before player boss Allen leveled 2 minutes later. The home side re-took the lead  10 minutes from half time when Kelvin Fraser netted but Penrhyn battled back again when Stuart Fraser equalised before the break to go in at 2-2. The game was end to end action and on the hour Simon Giddins scored to give Llanfair the lead once again but Penrhyn faught back to ensure a good trip home when vetran mid-fielder Iwan Roberts spoilt the home fans celebrations with his first goal of the season. Penrhyn will look to build on this performance and  look forward to a home game against Lex XI next saturday.

Close Shave

Penrhyn entered the next round of the Welsh Cup with a far from convincing performance against a determind Carno side. Trailing 1-0 half time, player manager Gavin Allen introduced himself second half and totaly changed the game. Chris Wilkins drew the sides level after 55 minutes before Allen scored the all important second to virtually kill off the mid-Wales team. Further goals late on from Tim Turner and Tony Jones made the result more respectable and sets up an interesting tie against money bags Queen's Park away in the second round.

Ruthin Rout

Penrhyncoch slumped to their third consecutive defeat of the season when they were comprehensively beaten by an average Ruthin side. The visiting side, without a few regulars, were never in the match after Llyr Hughes' penalty miss after 8 minutes which would have levelled the score and cancelled Ruthin's penalty 2 minutes previously when Kiam Jones converted. It was to be a long day for the roosters, and things got even worse before half time when Tryfan Prosser made it 2-0. Changes were made at half time, injuries to Toby Spain and Sion Meredith made life very difficult for Allen and it came with no surprise to see the home side extending the lead with a goal from Dave Holloway on the hour. With no league game for 3 weeks, this will be a welcome break for Penrhyn as they try their luck in the Welsh cup on Saturday 8th, a tricky away tie at Carno awaits the side.

Bala To Strong

Bala once again took all 3 points at Cae Baker for the fourth year in a row in a match they fully deserved to win. Two goal from Neil Griffiths and one from Neil Fisher secured Bala's win and lifted them up to second in the table behind early pace setters Prestatyn. Penrhyn rarely threatened throughout the match but did score a consolation goal from Stuart Fraser with 15 minutes to go. Costly mistakes are, once again this season, the major problem facing the team with all 3 goals coming from errors at the back. Allen's side will be looking to bounce back on Saturday with a trip to lowly Ruthin Town, 3 points will surely be on the managers mind.

Paul Morgan?

Penrhyncoch 0 Mynydd Isa 2

Referee Paul Morgan's inability to make big decisions cost Penrhyn a result on saturday. His failure to award a penalty when Tony Jones was floored in the penalty area after 15 minutes changed the entire pattern of the game. Instead of being down to 10 men and the loss of their keeper, Mynydd Isa produced a fine performance to take all 3 points. The match served up plenty of chances for both sides but it was Isa who were the more clinical in front of goal. Penrhyn were guilty of suandering numerous chances, Naughton, Turner and Fraser coming close before two second half goals from Anthony Griffiths after 46 and 53 minutes ended the home team's hopes. Allen's men must now pick themselves up for wednesday's game against a strong Bala side who are pushing hard for League of Wales status. He will at least draw some consulation with his side's performance but they must start turning these chances into goals.

Guilsfiled 1 Penrhyncoch 4

Penrhyn entered the top 6 of the early league table win a comprehensive victory over their mid Wales opponents on Wednesday. A hat-trick from Sion Meredith and a late Gavin Allen goal secured Penrhyn's first victory of the new season. All 5 goals came in the second period, Sion Meredith scored twice in quick time before the Guils pulled one back with 10 mins to go, leaving a nervous Penrhyn to hold out. With storm weathered, Meredith completed his hat-trick and Allen's last minute goal was the icing on the cake for a vital first win.

Bugs' Bullet Earns Penrhyn A Point

A stunning 30yard strike in injury time from Llyr Hughes secured a well deserved point for Penrhyn on the opening day of the season. Queen's Park might feel hard done by but all in all the result was a fair outcome in a highly entertaining match. The visitors started strongly and came close on a few occassions, only to be thwarted by some determined defending. As the game went on you could see the confidence building in the home side and it came with no surprise after 35mins when Penrhyn took the lead through player boss Gavin Allen. Tony Jones fed Stuart Fraser who laid the ball to Allen who calmly slotted the ball home. The second half saw Queen's Park push hard for the equaliser and it came after 65mins, John Griffiths heading the ball in after some neat work on the right. Penrhyn were hanging on and what seemed to be the winner came with 15mins left after Kevin Leech laid on Dave Griffiths, who powered it past Spain from 20yards. Tim Turner's disallowed goal with only 5 mins to go looked to have seeled Penrhyn's fate before Llyr (Bugs) Hughes' effort meant the points were shared.

PENRHYNCOCH 2 ABERTILLERY 1 (11/08/07)

Penrhyncoch ended their per-season friendlies with a hard fought victory over Gwent opponents Abertillery. Goals from Chris Wilkins and a penalty from Tony Jones secured the victory. Penrhyn start their campaign next saturday (18th) against highly fancied GAP Queens Park at Cae Baker (ko 2.30). Gavin Allen's men will go into the game in good spirits after and excellent pre-season, with only 1 defeat out of 6 friendlies.

BUILTH WELLS 0 PENRHYNCOCH 7(3/08/07)

Penrhyncoch's only away friendly this pre season ended in a totaly one sided affair. Goals from Tony Jones, Stuart Fraser, Mark Davies, Sion Meredith, Josh Shaw and a brace by player manager, Gavin Allen ensured an easy work out for the first team.

PENRHYNCOCH 0 ABERYSTWYTH 3 (31/07/07)

Aberystwyth showed last night why they will be a strong outfit in this year's League of Wales. With a number of players towering over six feet, Penrhyn struggled physically against an experienced team. Penrhyn will take a lot of heart from the game with many youngsters given the opportunity to play against one of the best teams in the country. Aber took the lead after 15 minutes with a Martin Naughton own goal that gave Toby Spain no chance. Penrhyn had a chance to level within 10 minutes after Tony Jones was put through one on one with the goalkeeper only to see his effort saved. Immediately after, Aber won a free kick wide on the left where Glyndwr Hughes rose above the defence to double the lead.

The score remained 2-0 at half time with changes at  the break bringing on a number of players from both sides, Sion Meredith  caused  Aber's defence problems with his determination and speed which almost resulted in a goal, only to see Aneirun Thomas tug his shirt back when he was through on goal. This was a red card offence in competitive matches but due to the nature of the game he was allowed to stay on. Andy Evans completed the scoring with 20 minutes to go with a low (miss hit) shot wrong footing Spain in goal.

The game was played in good spirit considering it to be a local derby and both sides will feel pleased to take so many positives away from the match.

PENRHYNCOCH 3 RHAYADER 0(27/07/07)

Three second half goals from Penrhyn settled this enjoyable game. Rhayader came down with a strong line up, with the experienced Dylan McPhee and Calum McKenzie, who are both ex league of Wales players, playing in midfield. Ceiran Cotter broke the deadlock mid way through the second period with a header from a corner. Two late goals, one from a Matty Davies free kick the other from Ashley Stephens made the tie safe.

PENRHYNCOCH 3 TYWYN & BRYNCRUG 1(26/7/07)

A strong Penrhyn outfit enjoyed a good workout against a very determined side on Thursday. In appalling conditions both sides battled well and at times it didn't feel like a friendly at all with some tasty tackles flying in. After an uncomfortable start, Penrhyn took the lead through an own goal, Tywyn's keeper and centre half colided before the ball trickled over the line. Tywyn showed why they finished 3rd last year in the Spar league when Toby Spain had to be at his best on a couple of occasions in the first half. The score was doubled in the 1st minute of the second period when Sion Meredith, who'd just come on, took on 3 players from inside his own half before calmly blasting the ball past the goalkeeper. Tywyn bounced back to halve the deficit after a mistake by the impresive Dylan James on the hour. Penrhyn finished strongly and with Tony Jones converting a penalty late on, this was a valuable run out for the squad. The big question on peoples lips was, will Sion Meredith sign?

PENRHYNCOCH 4 BOW STREET 2 (16/7/07)

Penrhyncoch started their pre-season with a warm up game against newly promoted Bow Street - in what was a good game Penrhyn found themselves 2-0 down with goals from A Evans and M Evans before Penrhyns superior fitness and know how stormed them into a 4-2 victory with a super strike from T Jones, a Pen from G Allen and an opportunice strike from T Turner and an good worked move finished by M Naughton.

Credit to Bow Street who played some good football but Penrhyn always seemed to be able to step up a few gears.

It was a good work out with plenty of positives - Bow Street - will do okay - but forget about trophies for a while - they are in Senior Football now.

Team - D GREGORY - M EGAN - E EDWARDS - T TURNER - J SHEIDS - I ROBERTS - T JONES - M NAUGHTON - C WILKINS - J SHERWOOD M DAVIES. SUBS - J SHAW - L HUGHES - D PRITCHARD - A STEPHENS - D THOMAS - M DAVIES - G ALLEN

Thanks to Bob for the report.
