A Brief History

Pembroke Subbuteo Club has been established for over a year now, it was after watching the FISTF World Cup which was held in Malta, that Timothy Spiteri and Kurt Causon got together along with Timothy's cousin, Karl Camilleri, to form the Pembroke Subbuteo Table Football Club. The first club meeting was held on the 8th November 2003, with various issues being tackled including tournaments to be played and league format amongst others, but most importantly on this day, Pembroke STFC had its first tournament, the players present were Timothy Spiteri, Kurt Causon, Karl Camilleri, Richard Apap Bologna, Daniel Buhagiar and Julian Mifsud, the latter three were friends of Kurt and Timothy that had been interested in taking up the game. From then on the club started playing every week on two astropitches from 1600 to sometimes even 2100 at Timothy Spiteri's basement at 314, Triq Patri A Tonna Barthet, Pembroke, every week there was subbuteo activity in Pembroke, and the players present streched from 3 to sometimes even over 10. Club Meeting kept on commencing for the next six months with seven more players joining the club. However in April the Spiteri's were moving house so the club was left without a premises, so the club was inactive for 2 and a half months, however in the end of July, the Camilleri's generously offered a place in there house for the club and Pembroke STFC started once more with the club changing its name to Pembroke Subbuteo Club. In two months the club had 9 new players, most being Juniors, at its peak the club had 27 members and it had also moved to a more secure venue, the Pembroke Athleta Sports Club, this had many facilities including toilets and a restaurant and also Televisions. The club saw many new players joining the club however there wasnt much activity from the original members, of who only Timothy Spiteri and Karl Camilleri played, with Daniel Buhagiar showing up occasionally. The club then went into a slight apathatic form with only few tournaments being played, however in December 2005, the club started its league and also had two one-day tournaments in the mean-time, the club looks like it's going in the right direction once more, with now also an FISTF Satellite going to be organised by the club in August, we hope the club will keep growing strong and large.
