With regard to the recent Kennel Club report on adopting the recommendations of the Animal Health Trust:

The recommendations of the Animal Health Trust give the impression of having been downloaded from the Internet.  If you check the "references" at the end of their report you will find where the information was taken from and the year of publication.

Whilst the references to "Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome" cannot be refuted they are somewhat outdated and this leads one to question whether they are currently applicable to our breed.

As regards the article/report on Caesarian sections and the apparently high level of these, we would point out that the report was drawn from the USA where the situation is greatly different from that here in the UK.  Most American veterinary surgeries are not available at weekends or during the night - thus breeders tend to opt for elective sections during normal office hours for the sake of the safety of their bitch.  This skews the report to such an extent that it cannot be said to apply to the UK.

We are however pleased that the Animal Health Report to a very large extent confirms the results of the work done by the Health Committee.  You can find the full report in the October Issue of the Kennel Gazette.
