Home-Start
Home-Start is a national charity working with young families, but each local scheme operates independently and sources its own funding.
Home-Start Derby trains volunteers who have parenting experience to support families with a child under 5 years and who are experiencing difficulties.
During 2009-2010, 102 families were supported in their own homes by 69 volunteers. The families and volunteers are from a wide range of backgrounds and ethnic groups. Referrals to Home-Start Derby are made by a variety of agencies.
The charity has rented the community based premises from Pear Tree Road Baptist Church since 1996. Relationships between Home-Start, Derby and the Church are excellent, and have proved mutually beneficial. The minister and one other Church member serve on the Home-Start Management Board.
