Peak Walking Group - Welcome

The Peak Walking Group was formed in November 1999 and we now have members from Doncaster to Nottingham and Salford to Peterborough. It is run by a Committee who are elected yearly at our AGM. We are a friendly group and provide enjoyable walks for adults of all ages. Children (under 18) are welcome provided they are capable of the distances and are accompanied by a parent/guardian.

However it is the Peak District, so please make sure the distances suit your level of fitness and capability. If you attend any of our walks please ensure that if you have any medical conditions that we should be reasonably aware of, please inform the Secretary and your Walk Leader along with details of procedures in case of an emergency. This information will be treated in complete confidence. Your safety is important to us - however it is your responsibility to inform us of potential problems. Walks are held most Sundays in the Peak District National Park and occasionally in surrounding areas. We provide a welcoming atmosphere, lively conversation, the opportunity for people to take photos and generally soak up the scenery, and to also have a bit of a chuckle on the way round, and a lunch break when everyone is hungry.........

We recently celebrated our 11th year, and had the pleasure in making one of our longest serving members an Honorary Life Member. Dave Clarke (who has since sadly passed away) was encouraged to join the group by his wife Irene, who thought that being in his 60’s and after many years of long distance walking on his own, the Pennine Way being one of them, that he should consider joining a walking group. Dave joined the group two months after the Peak Walking Group was formed in November 1999 and became a valuable member as Walk Co-ordinator in the early days, and later served as Chairman. He led many walks over the years and was well renowned for his knowledge of the White and Dark Peak areas of Derbyshire. Dave was also well known for his knowledge on where to get the best bacon butty in Derbyshire! His walking poles where his best friends, getting him to the top of Derbyshire‘s “undulations” way before the rest of his walking companions, as well as aiding him for the final sprint for liquid refreshment after a challenging walk.
