This was where the long journey for Nickelback begins. Hesher opens a door of fame and fortune to them, introducing the strong sounds of Chad Kroeger.
There are only seven songs on this album, as they saw it more as an experiment rather than a serious album they thought would sell millions.
Some of the songs on the Hesher album are also re-released in Curb (Where? Window Shopper, Fly and Left) as they were the best songs from Hesher.
The music on the Hesher album is very basic, but its Chad's voice that really adds the originality in all their songs.
Although Chad's voice has progressed a lot since Nickelback has become famous, even at the beginning, his natural talent was beginning to show. In tracks such as Where? and Truck, his voice really pronounces the kinds of emotion he is trying to emphasise. He also frequently experiments with high pitches.
The guitar riffs are also very basic but are effective as all songs have very different tunes to show how emotions differ as well. This is mostly in songs like In Front of Me and Left.
However, this album is let down by the drummer, Brandon Kroeger. He was no way up to the high standard of Ryan 'Nik' Vikedal and Daniel Adair. The rhythms are too basic and do not always seem to match the music used. However, we must remember that this was their first album and they were just experimenting, and in my opinion, they had done quite a good job of it.
