Little Stories To Encourage And Inspire

Do Raindrops Keep Falling On Your Head?

The subject line is of course taken from the title of a very popular rain song from years ago. The rain falling on his head was the way he described the troubles in his life. I’ve always loved rain songs from “Walking In The Rain” through “Rhythm Of The Rain”.

Years ago I even wrote a rain song titled,

“Have You Ever Wished You Could Be Some Place Else?”
The first verse said:

The thunder is roaring, the lightning is flashing
The rain is falling down on my head
The rain just keeps pouring and I just keep splashing
Thru the water as I wish I was home and in bed

Okay, I didn’t say it was a hit song. :-) The point is that we too often see the rain or the troubles in our lives and immediately become short sighted. A true poet once wrote:

APRIL RAIN

It is not raining rain for me,
It's raining daffodils;
In every dimpled drop I see
Wild flowers on the hills.

The clouds of gray engulf the day
And overwhelm the town;
It is not raining rain to me,
It's raining roses down.

It is not raining rain to me,
But fields of clover bloom,
Where any buccaneering bee
Can find a bed and room.

A health unto the happy,
A fig for him who frets!
It is not raining rain to me,
It's raining violets.

Robert Loveman [1864-1923]

J.H. McConkey wrote:

“Perchance one of God's chastened children is even now saying, ‘O God, it is raining hard on me tonight. Difficulties are raining upon me which seem beyond my power to endure. Disappointments are raining fast, to the utter defeat of all my chosen plans. Bereavements are raining onto my life which makes my shrinking heart quiver in its intensity of suffering; the rain of affliction is surely beating down upon my soul these days.’

Friends, you are mistaken. It isn't raining rain for you. It's raining blessings. For if you will but believe your Fathers word, under that beating rain are springing up spiritual flowers of such fragrance and beauty as never before grew in that stormless, unchastened life of yours. You indeed see rain. But, do you see, also, the flowers? It isn't raining afflictions for you. It is raining tenderness, love, compassion, patience and a thousand other flowers and fruits of the blessed spirit which are bringing into your life such spiritual enrichment as all the fullness of worldly prosperity and ease was ever able to beget in your innermost soul.”

In plain English, we need to remember that God has the unique ability to take something bad in our lives and somehow turn it around, so that in just a matter of time, He makes the bad thing either become or be the cause of  something much, much better!

Let’s never forget the story of Joseph in the Bible and where he said, “God meant it for good.” (Genesis 50:20)
Let’s remember that if we resist the devil he will run away (James 4:7) and that trials build patience (James 1:3).
We can be confident that all things, even the bad things, work together for good for those that love the Lord. (Romans 8:28)

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
(I Corinthians 10:13)
