Years ago when I attended high school I regrettably didn't apply myself as I could have but I did show up most everyday. By showing up everyday in the classroom I picked up enough knowledge to easily graduate but I didn't gain a lot of wisdom. Likewise I've "shown up" for a lot of years in this classroom of life but just because I've shown up everyday is no guarantee of wisdom. I'm thankful that by "showing up" I have at least picked up a few things - one which I picked up through my own mistakes I'd like to share.
It is best described by an email message I recently received. It is as follows:

A Friend Is A Most Precious Possession
A blessed thing it is for any man or woman to have a friend; one human soul whom we can trust utterly; who knows the best and the worst of us and who loves us in spite of our faults; who will speak the honest truth to us while the world will flatter us to our faces and laugh behind our backs; who will give counsel and reproof in the day of prosperity and self conceit; but who, again will comfort and encourage us in the day of difficulty and sorrow when the world leaves us alone to fight our own battles as we can.
If we have the good fortune to win such a friend, let us do anything rather than lose her. We must give and forgive; live and let live. If our friends have faults we must bear with them.
We must hope all things and endure all things rather than lose that most precious of all earthly possessions... a trusty friend.
