Little Stories To Encourage And Inspire

Do You Really Trust God?

Once upon a time, many many years ago, there was a small village located in a valley at the foot of a very, very tall mountain. Everyone was inspired by the mountain and it was common knowledge that if anyone climbed it they would certainly be the most popular person around.

This is a story about a mountain climber who wanted that popularity so much that he decided he would climb the mountain. He began his adventure after much preparation, but since he wanted the glory just for himself, he decided to climb the mountain alone.

The night felt heavy in the heights of the mountain and the man could not see anything. All was black. Zero visibility and the moon and the stars were covered by the clouds.

As he was climbing, he slipped and fell into the air, falling at great speed. The climber could only see black spots as he went down, and the terrible sensation of being sucked by gravity. He kept falling, and in those moments of great fear, it came to his mind all the good and bad episodes of his life. He was thinking now about how close death was getting, when all of a sudden he felt the rope tied to his waist pull him very hard and stopped his fall in mid-air. He reached up and quickly grabbed the rope and began clutching to it for his very life.

Once he gathered his nerves, he tried to find the side of the mountain, but it was out of reach and his jolt at the end of the line had injured him to the point where he didn’t have the fortitude to climb the rope. He was hurt, bitterly cold, desperate and alone. He wept for a time, then pulled himself together. In that moment of stillness he had no other choice but to cry out:

HELP ME GOD!!

All of a sudden, a deep voice coming from the sky answered: What do you want me to do?

The climber begged, “Please save me God!!”

God answered and said, “Will you trust me and obey me?”

The climber said, “Oh yes, yes I trust you! Just save me, please save me!”

God then said, “Cut the rope.”

There was a moment of silence.

Instead of cutting it the man decided to hold on to the rope with all his strength. He told himself that surely God didn't really mean for him to cut the rope. There must be a better way! He was certain that God would give him the strength to grip the line until help arrived.

The next day the rescue team tells that a climber was found dead and frozen, his body hanging from a rope with his hands holding tightly to it — Only a few feet from the ground.
