Years of Experience: 1996 - Present.
A short While later I purchased a Pentium 133, which was a big improvement over the 386. I now had two PC's, but my 386 had gotten a virus and was out for repairs for a while.I got a bit of a fright from that because it was my first time encountering a virus or even hearing about them. I got that removed and got my PC back up and running. I was then enrolled in a high school Co-op course that gave me an opportunity to work in the computer field. I was accepted at the Engineering Technology Center on Ridge road while the college was still labelled Cabot College. I was there for 3-4 months doing things like upgrades, Virus Removal, Software installation and various operating system installations and configurations. With the knowledge I gained from that workterm I was then able to upgrade my existing 386 to a 486 processor and Main board. I slowly upgraded the components in that PC further expanding my computer knowledge. I then had a lot of friends coming to me looking for different upgrades to be done on their computers. I was after building close to 60 computers for different reasons by that time, so a friend and I were talking of starting our own little company performing various upgrades for people around town which we called "Computer Upgrade's & More". We got that started and it went slow at first until I was able to do up some business cards and advertisements. I then decided that it would be a good idea to create a homepage for the business. But neither of us had any html experience, so I decided to try and create one using Netscape Composer which was OK at first, but we quickly realized that it wasn't a suitable page for the company. After about 3 months with the page I got fed up with the look and decided to learn how to write code, I got a lend of the book "The Definitive Guide to HTML" and taught Myself how to design a homepage. This was a big improvement on the previous page. The company was working out pretty well, we encountered some very interesting problems during our time in business but were able to get everything fixed. Once I started college we had to take the company out of commission but we kept doing jobs for people in our spare time while continually upgrading our personal computers. What began as a 386 is now an AMD Athlon XP 2800+, and I have built more computers from the upgrade parts I had left over.   |
