Penetration of Chess Players
in the European Union (15 Countries)
The penetration of chess playing in a Country depends on a variety of factors. A way to start such an evaluation could be to calculate the number of rated players (FIDE) of a country in relation to the country population. A table with such a data is presented here below. For a low penetration in a country a new discussion can start to find out the reasons for such lower figures and discuss methods to increase the chess game popularity. A penetration table for some other countries such as USA, Russia, Canada, etc, is also given below.

1. The first remark here is that in the EU, Portugal, UK and Italy have a remarkably lower penetration.
2. In Europe Hungary has the strongest penetration.
3. The EU average is better than the one of Russia.
4. The EU average shall surely get better after the EU country members have become 25.
5. Canada has a better penetration than USA.
