Pratap BAHADUR (b 15 Dec.1951), Ph.D, D.Sc has been Professor at VN South Gujarat University, Surat since  16th Aug.1988 and presently heads Chemistry Department After receiving his Ph.D degree from Agra University, Agra ( Prof S N Srivastava) on emulsions followed by three years of post-doctoral research on Surfactant  and Colloidal dispersions, he went to erstwhile Czechoslovakia in 1978 to participate in the UNESCO post-graduate course on Polymers for one year at the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Prague ( Prof P Kraochvil ) and worked on Block Copolymer Micelles. On return he worked at Shri Ram Institute of Industrial Research, New Delhi for a few months and later joined as a Reader in Chemistry at the South Gujarat University in June 1980 where he has been serving since then and was  also the Head of Chemistry Department between April 1981- December 1983.

Dr. Bahadur went to Mulhouse, France  ( Prof G Riess) in 1983 as a visiting scientist for one year to extend the work on Block Copolymeric Micelles. He has been to Uppsala, Sweden (Prof M Almgren) for four successive trips of 2-3 months each during 1988-1991 as Visiting Scientist from Swedish National Science Research Council and initiated work on EO-PO based Block Copolymeric Surfactants. Dr. Bahadur visited the erstwhile USSR in 1989 under the Cultural Exchange Programme and lectured in universities at Kiev, Moscow and Leningrad. He spent 6 months in 1994 as a Fulbright Scholar in IUPUI, Indianapolis, USA (Prof. Paul Dubin). He availed a short term invitation fellowship of JSPS and was a visiting professor at Saga University, Japan (Prof K Nakashima) in summer 2005. Here he gave a short course  on Polymers and Colloids and delivered talks at different universities in Fukuoka, Tokyo, Yokohama and Osaka. In December 2005, he went to Japan again and  visited Saga, Nagoya anad Yokohama for acaademic discussions/seminars. In summer 2006, he visited Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing ( Prof H J Liu )  for 40 days under the TWAS-CAS visitorship. Here too he taught a short course on Colloids and Polymers. He also gave research seminars and held discussions with professors in universities at Shanghai, Wuchang and Jinan. In Feb. 2007, Dr Bahadur visited Australia for ACIS meeting in Sydney and gave talks in the University of Melbourne, Australian Natl University, Canberra and at Ian Wark Reserach Centre Adelaide. In May 2007 Dr Bahadur went to Poland, and was invited as a plenary speaker in SURUZ 2007 at Wroclaw. He stayed at the Institute of Surface Chemistry and Catalysis, Krakow for a week and gave seminar and held discussions with professors there. In October 2007, Dr Bahadur was invited to Asian Colloid Conference in Jinan China and lectured at Inst Process Engg, Beijing and SCJ Co Shanghai. He spent summer 2008 in US and gave talks at few companies and Univ. In October-November 2008, Dr Bahadur visited Martin Luther University, Halle Wittenberg Germany (Prof Alfred Blume) as a scientist sponsored by  DAAD  and lectured at Max Planck Inst, Potsdam, Technical University Berlin, MLU Halle, ENS de Chimie Mulhouse France, Lulea Institute Technology Lulea, Sweden. Many of his students later worked as post docs abroad and now hold key positions in Academia and Industries in India and other countries.

Most of Dr Bahadur’s work concerns Surface, Colloid and Polymers Science with special interest in Block Copolymers, Surfactants and Colloidal Systems ( ISI Thomson's Total citations over 1800 and h-index 22). He has been the Principal Investigator of several sponsored Research Projects from CSIR, UGC, DST, IUC-DAEF and consultant to some MNCs. He has acted as resource person in several National and International Conferences/Symposia/Workshops across the globe and as referee for several journals.
