Ricardo was born in Bogota, Colombia in 1959. He holds a BSc degree from Universidad de los Andes, where he got involved in art studies, which started his formal interest on this field. He eventually moved to Europe to be trained as a scientist and at the same time registered in several visual art courses offered in Oviedo, Rome and Brighton. Ricardo’s own artworks are committed to the portrayal of today’s individual struggles and collective socio-political concerns, expressed in a neo-symbolist language. He has participated in several art workshops held at the Museum of the Americas, Organization of American States (OAS), in Washington, DC and recently in MontevideoUruguay. His paintings have been exhibited in Bogota, Colombia; Oviedo, Spain and in the USA (Washington DC; Alexandria and Petersburgh, Virginia). New interests also grab his attention in order to promote visual arts through education and private/public events, and to learn about conservation of fine arts, including antique wood fireplaces and frame restoration. Since 2007 Ricardo joined the Adams Morgan Stained Glass Studio, assisting Master craftsman Daniel Wolkoff in historical restoration, specializing in DC’s turn of the century architecture and original glass art designs. More recently he has been volunteering at the Smithsonian Institution, helping in the development of the Latino Center's programs with a personal emphasis on their visual arts’ special projects.
