Paulette's Art

A Ziggy-Zaggy life

This group of paintings is my way to explore design elements in a chaotic controled way.

I try to give order to the random splash of colors by repeating patterns and outlining the colores with black and gold inks. In some of these paintings you can find figures. I use this to imply my stuggles in a ziggy zaggy life. I am drawn in so many directions with in my art and by my art and family. If I were to stay more focused, I would have a great many more of these zig zag paintings.

Welcome

Paulette's Art is a place to see art made by me (Paulette Gill) along with some of my favorite pieces of art from historical and contemporary artists. I will also share ideas and stories from my experiences in teaching art to children. Look around, enjoy yourself, and please sign my guestbook.

Artist's Statement

I think my art is my way to search for truth, struggle with the questions my
heart, head and soul have. And like a child, I want to try everything and am not
afraid of anything.
Except maybe not finding an answer.

I love the process of art
using my hands, mind, and body in the act of making art.
I am happiest while I am doing it.

It is rather like parenting. We come into it knowing little, to nothing
and as time passes we learn the process and we learn to work through
the frustrations of not achieving what we had envisioned.
But learn to accept the art for what it needs to be.
So looking at my work, I need to ask the question.
Which is the piece of art and what is going through the
transformation into something holy and lovely,
the canvas, the paper, the clay, or myself?

For this reason I like to work in series so I can see my process
of growth from one piece to the next.
And it is a way to tell a story about the process
as well as being a lot of fun.

Quote of the Month

Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive"
