	SHANIA TWAIN  Up! Mercury/PolyGram/UMG 11-28-2002 Besides a photo layout that is oddly reminiscent of Lee Aaron's 1983 pictorial in Oui magazine, Shania Twain's Up! contains two nearly identical collections of music. Is this an attempt to appease both the "pop" and "country" audiences in hopes of matching the stratospheric sales of Come on Over... or to create a radical art-pop masterpiece that amalgamates every song ever recorded in an infinite number of variations? Consider the evidence. Fact: while the pop version of "She's Not Just a Pretty Face" sounds like Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger," U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar on Me," the country version only sounds like "Pour Some Sugar on Me," except with fiddle and pedal steel guitar. Fact: the pop version of "Thank You Baby!" sounds 30 per cent more like Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" than the country version does, yet the country version only sounds 15 per cent more like the Dixie Chicks' "White Trash Wedding." Fact: both versions of "Ka-Ching!" sound like Pink Floyd's "Money" in the exact same ratio. Why, the answer couldn't be plainer. JASON ANDERSON
