SHANIA CARES: Her Work for Hungry Children and Charity Support

This will take you to shania.com's page for the Charities that not only I believe in but Shania also believes in them and so do all her fans. Please stop by and take a look at Make-A-Wish Foundation,America's Second Harvest in which Kids Cafe is part of that organization, Breakfast For Learning a program for the children in Canada, RAINN, and Sarcoma Forums. These are worthy organizations that 99.9% of all donations go straight for the children.

RAINN is a courageous organization that deals honestly and directly with a very sensitive and important societal issue. Their background & purpose is described in brief, but is probably too mature for very young readers. Please use discretion.

Shania donated one of her favorite custom made-tops that she wore during her recent record-breaking "Come On Over" concert tour to a special auction for RAINN (the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network), a wonderful organization that operates the country's only nationwide hotline for survivors of sexual assault at 1-800-656-HOPE. RAINN's hotline has helped more than 320,000 victims since their founding in 1994. Shania's autographed concert blouse was up for auction from June 12 - June 26 2000. The winning bid was well over $2000. The auction was a great fundraising success, thanks in large measure to the participation of Shania's fans. RAINN

For more information please visit the RAINN Website. Fans know how seriously Shania takes these often hidden, unspeakable problems addressed by RAINN, as her moving song "Black Eyes, Blue Tears" testifies. Note: The webmaster has been deeply affected by the experience of trying to help several of Shania's fans or family members deal with traumas of this nature in their lives, and has always recommended RAINN (along with another great organization that helps abused children) as *the* best place to start -- to talk to a caring human being and trained professional, who in total confidentiality can provide genuine assistance, support and reassurance. RAINN is linked to a nationwide network of over 850 local counseling centers that offer free resources to survivors. That's why fundraisers like this with Shania's and her fans' donations are so important. RAINN is supported by a committed group of artists and corporate sponsors, yet is primarily funded through donations and charity auctions of this kind. Thank you for your participation.

Complete background and donation information for "Kids' Cafe" can be found at the Second Harvest Website.

Or by contacting their main Chicago Office:

Second Harvest

Donations may be made directly to KIDS' CAFE through their website or office above (* on behalf of Shania and her fans)... OR fans may alternately/also make donations specifically to the LOCAL Kids' Cafes in their local communities. Second Harvest will of course accept any donations to their main Chicago office, but those donations will not necessarily got to the Kids' Cafe in your local community, unless you so specify.

The cities and phone numbers of most Kids' Cafes in the U.S. are listed at Shania's GBTC & Second Harvest/Kids' Cafe page. Some new facilities added since, in part to Shania's and fans' generosity, so check where you live (list posted at shania.com for over three years now).

Shania wrote "God Bless The Child" (extended single version, 1996) specifically to help feed hungry children in North America, as she designated all proceeds go to "Second Harvest/Kids' Cafe" and "Breakfast For Learning." Canadian fans can still purchase Shania's "God Bless The Child" CD SINGLE (Canadian maxi-single), with sales proceeds go to these two organizations. This record breaking 4-track maxi-single also includes terrific specially remixed versions of her huge smash #1 smashes "(IYNIIFL)IOH,"WBHYBBU," and "WIM." North American fans may purchase her "God Bless The Child" maxi-single online.

Some have also asked about Shania's "artist royalties and proceeds" -- as songwriter/performer of "God Bless The Child" -- since her "GBTC" single is no longer available at U.S. retail ("GBTC" was barely shipped initially, barely played at radio/no DJ single sent to radio stations, and virtually no video play at any video channel, for still unknown reasons). In Canada, "GBTC" maxi-single was a record setting #1 pop single for 9 weeks, the #1 selling genre single in Canadian history and remains on the pop singles charts over three years later. However Shania's special charity single has still never been available internationally.

"Artist" Royalties that Shania donates to Kids's Cafe and BFL from "GBTC" include her proceeds from: "GBTC" RETAIL single sales, radio play, her ALBUM sales where the song appears (the a capella version is on her "The Woman In Me" CD, but her extended "GBTC single version for Kids' Cafe has appeared on several "holiday" compilation albums), and also from her live performances of "GBTC" every night in concert (with a local youth choir).

Shania's artist proceeds from her licensed merchandise sales also go to help Kids' Cafe and BFL.

Shania's fans may also make direct donations AT the designated Kids' Cafe booths set up at her concerts. Shania continues to help these charities through her own private donations, and has met with some of the children and Kids' Cafe staffs at their local facilities (when her schedule allows), and provided some special seats at her concerts.

Breakfast For Learning (Canada)

"Breakfast For Learning" is a Canadian Living Foundation program, with the largest network of local food banks that feed children in need throughout Canada. "Kids' Cafe" is a separate program with a similar mission run by Second Harvest in the US. Shania researched and selected these leading non-profit organizations to work with in her committed effort to do whatever she can to help bring more awareness to this too prevalent problem, and to assist with needed financial support to help alleviate the suffering.

Complete background and donation information for Canadian Living Foundation's "Breakfast For Learning" can be found at the Canadian Living Foundation Breakfast For Learning Website.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation (International)

Shania also has worked with Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to children under age 18 with life-threatening illnesses. It is the largest wish-granting organization in the world, with 80 chapters in the United States and its territories, and 20 international affiliates on five continents. These wishes are granted through the generosity of private donors and more than 18,000 volunteers. The Make-A-Wish Foundation becomes aware of a child's wish through referrals, which are accepted from parents (or guardians), the child, or medical professionals. Please see their website for detailed information.

Please if you can afford just five dollars to donate to one of these very worthy charites, it would be so good and it will even make you feel good to know that you helped a child to survive and not go hungry. Shania donates to all of these charities and why you may ask? Well the answer is simple she wants to help the kids out there that are in the same circumstances she was in when she was growing. So please, please give to one of these help a child let a child know that there are people out there who care about them. Reach out to them help Shania help the children. Thank you as I totally believe in these organizations totally. Let me tell ya a small story-I got a job on the front end working for SuperKmart and each fall we did the Make A Wish Foundation fund raiser. We were too ask if the customer if they would like to donate just a dollar most customers were glad to donate to an organization as well known as the Make -A-Wish Foundation. Some would write it off as the money doesn't go to the kids and I would stand there and say it most certainly does. One day there was a mother in my line and she started to go off on me for asking for the donation saying I'm not giving to an organization who doesn't give it too the kids. Well as I was about to say something the lady behind her started to tell her off and I was glad and she told the lady this:"My son was given a wish from the foundation nnd they are very reputable and I feel sorry for you cause you are refusing to help a child who really needs it." Well the other lady made a donation as she was stunned and caught off guard.

America's Second Harvest

Well hello there I am going too put some information here about this wonderful organization which feeds the hungry. It is also one of the charities Shania gives too.

What began in Phoenix, Arizona as one single food bank established by John Van Hengle in response to the need of his neighbors has now become a nationwide network of more than 200 member food banks and food rescue organizations across the country. This unique network is responsible for providing emergency food assistance in virtually every one of America's 3,141 counties. In 2004 the America's Second Harvest Network distributed nearly 2 billion pounds of food to 23 million hungry people. While we take pride in our ability to help provide food and hope for so many, it's a shame that there are so many to feed in a country as abundant as America. America's Second Harvest Organization had there 25th anniversary last year. They did not celebrate, instead they commemorate there efforts and accomplishments that help to make a difference in the in the lives of America's hungry and they look forward to implementing the innovative changes they've made to further there fight against hunger. They are beginning 2005 with exciting changes in the way they work. They have completed an important initiative--creating a powerful new brand that will identify them nationally and locally, as there new name suggests , America's Second Harvest--The nations food bank network is the only nationwide network of certified member food banks and food rescue organizations that serve virtually every community across the country. There network members work together with the national office to procure food, establish programs and services, aide in disasters, and ensure that families are fed. Today as an aligned network, They are stronger and more efficient. In addition, they are establishing initiatives that will enhance there efforts to end hunger. Moving forward through 2005, the America's Second Harvest Network will expand there Kids Cafe, community kitchens, and other programs and services to increase there efficiency and capacity to feed the hungry. With your help during the next year, they intend to secure and distribute an additional 136 million pounds of food across America. There goals include increasing the amount of private sector food they distribute, maximizing federal food sources, improving safety monitoring and efficiency training at our food banks, reducing transportation costs, increasing nutritional content in the food they distribute, integrating technological programs for all of our network members, publishing there 2005 hunger study and raising public awareness. The hunger study is due to come out in November 2005. On national hunger awareness day 2004, the America's Second Harvest Network and twelve hunger relief partners released there plan to end hunger in the United States. A blueprint to end hunger outlines ways in which we can realistically cut the hunger rate in half by the year 2010. That means ensuring food security for 17.5 million Americans who today are struggling to keep food on the table. While feeding people can help alleviate hunger immediately, extra measures must be taken to address the root causes of food insecurity. There plan necessitates combing the resourses of schools, community organizations, industries, levels of governments, charities and individuals, so that we can begin to eliminate the socio-economic issues that result in hunger. In there 25th year the entire America's Second Harvest Network and there donors and volunteers have renewed there pledge to ending hunger in America. They will continue to enhance the quality, efficiency and reach for those they serve. They will make those changes to best serve the needs of there most vulnerable neighbors and provide the leadership necessary to build a nationwide movement to create a hunger-free America. The passionate commitment to ending hunger that they share with the rest of us will fuel there efforts for years to come. We will finally see the end of hunger in America.
