Hi.My name's Allison. In 2005 I was hit by a car while riding my bike to work. The driver wasn't paying attention and side-swiped me, throwing me into the air. I landed on my neck and my head bounced a couple times. Ouch is right! Well, sometimes you might see me and think I'm just a normal person hanging out, other times you might think I'm on something, and other times you might wonder if I'm dying right there on the street -- it all depends on how I'm feeling right then, and it varies greatly. If you want to hear more about that you can click the link to the left and read the whole sad story. It's pretty whiny, and out of date, but detailed and all. Meanwhile, I'm getting tired of that story so let's move on.

I have spent the last several years trying to find purpose in a new life of often invisible disability, and it has not been an easy adjustment. Finally I came to a point where I knew something had to change drastically, or I would completely lose myself.
Sinking into a deep depression, my family and friends helped to arrange a personal retreat to my favorite beach in Mexico to spend time alone and turn my attention to nurturing my soul. The natural beauty and peaceful surroundings, the feeling of a certain amount of independence, the opportunity to change my focus from disability to ability, the reprieve from the stress and bombardment of our chaotic urban life, changed things for me tremendously. For the first time in over a year I once again brought out my paints, and fortunately the effects of this retreat have stayed with me. As my strength and health have continued to improve, slowly but surely, and the "black dog" has moved on, with just occasional short visits to keep me on my toes, what I have found most healing is to continue trying to nurture my connection to nature, and to explore my thoughts and perceptions artistically.

I hope you enjoy exploring this website. I have to admit I go through phases in its upkeep, but I am always inspired when I know others have visited, and therefore welcome, encourage, even urge you to make comments on what you find here. My hope is also that the art, songs, poems and shared thoughts here kindle your imagination and inspire reflection.

In peace,

Allison
