I started owning running dogs at the age of 12 for rabbiting, at the age of 16 I started training and racing greyhounds on local Independent Greyhound tracks which I did for 16 years. Each Weekend during the Summer we now travel to various parts of the country (March~October) running in Open race meetings and Championship meetings that are organized by the Whippet Club Racing Association with a good degree of success, races range in distance from 150yds to 200yds in a straight line and 240yds round a bend. At Parkstone Whippets we don't believe theres such a thing as a "Mutli Purpose Whippet" that can compeat at the top level in all disaplins, we believe the only way to succeed at the top level in any sport (whether racing/showing/working) is to breed specificly for your choosen sport, with that in mind we only breed for racing/working (including lure coursing) to produce fast/strong whippets capable of fulfilling their purpose while keeping the whippets excelant temprement. Paula & Myself are both members of the English Whippet Club, In 2000 I was acredited to the Whippet Club ( http://www.thewhippetclub.com/ ) as a seconder to the WCRA (whippet Club Racing Association) and I am also a seconder for the newly form National Pedigree Whippet Racing Club. As well as racing we still work our dogs day & night in pursuit of rabbits, Until the ban on Hunting was introduced we also Coursed under NWCC rules with the East Anglia Whippet Coursing Club. In 2004 The BBC used two of our Whippets for the Tv show "Cutting it" the two they used where Parkstone True Blue & Parkstone Flashback. on the 26th November 2005 two of our dogs Parkstone Lucky Charm & Parkstone True Blue took part in the 1st ever whippet race at Belle Vue greyhound Stadium Manchester. Along with some freinds we formed The Lancashire Pedigree Whippet Racing Club, if you would like information on Racing in the Lancashire Area please don't hessitate to contact us on Home (01706) 669120 or Mobile (07903) 624876 or e/mail parkstonewhippets@hotmail.com |
