Ash Wastes Terrain
|
This is a set of terrain that a friend and I made for Southcon last year, to enter in the competiton for Best Terrain. Sadly the judge gave the prize to a guy who brought two table worth, but was of what I thought to be low quality.

Another example, though with wooden slats as opposed to corrugated iron walls. Sadly one of the boards broke off of the front wall.

What Imperial outpost is without a watering hole? It has a second story, and though it isnt visible, a back shed/lean-to.

The Swamp

This never made it to the table for the competition, as the glue that I poured into it still wasn't dry. I'm afraid I dont remember much about how I made the color of the water, except that I mixed some green citadel paint into the glue (just poured it in) and it was so cold in my flat that rather than mixing properly it just reduced to all these little green blips in the paint. The 'jungle tree' bases are embedded in plaster in the sides, which one day will have the rest of the damn tree added.

This is a bigger version of the above. The surface that these are all on consists of 3 4' by 2' sections of 3mm MDF with sand glued onto it. a couple of coats of varnish to hold it down and then painted with a dark grey and then light grey highlights. I made this with the intention of putting different types of terrain on each side, so as to have any surface required. I bought three 8' by 4' boards, and am using it in 6' by 4' tables. I think. Maybe 8' by 4', but I havent decided. The problem that I have is that dice sound funny when rolled on the sand, is very clattery and annoying. I think I need something new, perhaps a fine sawdust (well, fine-ish) to muffle it.
