We breed the Rough Coat Chow Chow. They are double coated dogs. Rough In the rough coat, the outer coat is abundant, dense, straight and off standing, rather coarse in texture; the undercoat soft, thick and wooly. Coat length varies from Chow Chow to Chow Chow. And some can have rather short coats, but do not confuse them with the unique smooth coat Chow . They come in 5 color which is determined by their outer coat. Color does not determine if one is healthier than the other and has no bearing on their temperament or if they are trainable. Chows are normally well behaved and well mannered but they can willful, protective, dominating, bossy and very independent. They are very loyal to one person or one family and they are reserved about meeting strangers.  They are by no means stupid they are just born stubborn. And require a firm owner.They have a life expenctancy of about 15 years.

Red Color Chows- Covers a wide range: From deep solid mahogany red to a light golden red with nearly white shadings on the tail, breeching's, and ruff. Reds with light shadings are called "shaded reds". Reds without shadings are called "self reds". Some  are more brown in color while others are beautiful orange. Red puppies are born mousy a brown color usually with a black mask.The mask will fade or go away by maturity.

Black Color Chows- Self explanatory but some black Chows have silver shadings in their tails or breeching's. Black Chows are born black. Black Chows coats can become bleached when keep outside in the sun, causing a red cast. Makes them appear "rusty" or "chocolate" but they are black.

Cream Color Chows- Can be ivory, nearly white, butterscotch, a light/white cream, and a light red which is a dark cream. They are cream from birth and usually have light tan ears and legs. Cream puppies do not have dark masks. Creams  are seldom seen at dog shows because their noses which might be black at birth always turn brown.

Blue Color Chows- Are a steel gray color, sometimes with silver shadings as the blacks. Blue can range from a very dark bluish gray(new blue jeans) to a lighter silvery-bluish color (like faded blue jeans). The muzzle and legs have a "salt and pepper" mixture of light and dark hairs, giving them a frosted look. Some blues have brown shadings in their coats and blues can also "rust" in the sun. Noses on blues are often gray or slate-colored. This is the only color of Chow where a black nose is not required, but it cannot be brown.

Cinnamon Color Chows- Most misunderstood color. They can be light or dark. They are a diluted color of the red chow. Light Cinnamon's can be a fawn/ taupe color while the darker shade can be brownish or a deep tone. They can also be cinnamon with blue highlights running through their coats. Commonly they  are kind a like Cinnamon and Sugar mixed together. They are often born with a silvery cast and are often mistaken for blues at birth.This cast disappears in a few weeks. They often have a gray mask that will often disappear at maturity. They must have a black nose not gray or brown. 

 Our babies are raised in the house with us and four children and three cats. Our Chow Chows are taught obedience and are ongoing in their exposure to different environments and socialization skills. As for the puppies born here at Paradise Chows they are handled daily from birth by all of our family members including all four of our children. We breed for temperament, structure and quality to provide a  wonderful addition to your family at reasonable adoption prices.
