RARE HYBRID:

Pachliopta atropos female X Pachliopta antiphus brevicauda male

The specimen is a typical male Pachliopta antiphus brevicauda, but has tails typical of Pachliopta atropos - i.e. long and spatula shaped.

Only two other such hybrid specimens exist - a pair deposited in the collection of Zoological Museum of the University of Copenhagen (ZMUC).

Pachliopta atropos is an endemic species to Palawan.  Local and uncommon in primary lowland rain forest habitats.

Pachliopta antiphus brevicauda is an endemic subspecies to Palawan.  Common in disturbed habitats and secondary forest.


Mosaic Appias nero palawanica gynandromorph


A mainly male Appias nero palawanica mosaic gynadromorph - upper side almost entirely male (orange) with slight "light yellow female form" patches on the upper part of the left hindwing.
