(Game_Hunter): Castle. ScouSin's note: Questionmarks are where apostraphies should be. Syntax bug.
Castle is a BYOND game, much like "Tower Defense" games for those of you who have played WarCraft III. Those of you who haven’t, I’ll be brief: you place units on castle walls, trying to destroy monsters that are trying to reach your castle gate, which has a certain amount of life. If they destroy the door, you lose. You place many different kinds of units, such as Archers, Fire Mages, Catapults, Harpoon Cannons, and a bunch more, as well as a couple traps you place that the monsters run over and some TNT.
The game requires strategic placement, and if you’re playing multiplayer, teamwork. That means that each person should concentrate on their type of unit, either archery, magic, traps, or hunters. The game is quite hard on the last few levels, and is quite fun to play, provided your teammates aren’t complete idiots that don’t know what they’re doing.
Here’s a list of your basic idiots in this game:
Absolute newbie: This guy has never played the game before, and thus he doesn’t know what he’s doing, or what’s going on if he’s a spectator watching others. If he’s in the game, that’s just what you don’t want: he’ll not only ruin the entire game building pathetic archers on wave 20, but also blame everyone else for "not teaching him how to play." If you want to learn how to play, go play solo, and figure out the game for yourself.
If they’re spectating, that’s just as bad. Because they know nothing, the first thing they ask is "how do u play????" You may begin to teach him, which takes too much time, and annoys everyone ELSE, or you do the simple thing, and tell him to watch the people playing or, even better, tell him to play a solo game. Then they get mad at you, call you names, spam if they want, and usually everyone’s in a bad mood. Thank goodness for muting the spectators, though.
Ignorant newbie: These fellows are truly bothersome. Let me tell you right now that in my experience of the game Castle, the archery class is highly underpowered, or at least when I wrote this: they may change, and I hope they do. They should be beefed up substantially, and until they do, they are near worthless. Some people (the ignorant newbies) insist that archery is much better than the hunter class (which has been the natural choice after it was improved). Either they haven’t played in a long time, or have never gotten far in the game, because it just doesn’t work. 1) The person who builds in the archery class is wasting money for the other people and 2) It just doesn’t pack enough power. I really don’t like that it isn’t strong enough, but it isn’t. These people complain that it’s the BEST class.
Another example, back in the day when Castle was in its beginning stages, and the four classes were in place, people always wanted to get traps. Back then, traps were a waste of money, mainly because the only things that did get killed by traps could easily be killed by anything else. Now, with the addition of several waves, they are essential, but back then, they were pointless, yet many newbies somehow knew that they were awesome. They weren’t back then, so I decided on my pastime of laughing in their faces.
Finally, ignorant newbies can be just plain stupid. They are places in the game that are good for placing units. These guys rarely place ‘em there, and instead place them in areas where their units barely attack. They, however, will tell you it’s the best place in the world, and they’ll get all the kills because of it. That attitude makes me sick. Usually this type of newbie evolves into the next type.
Arrogant newbie/midbie: While these players can be good, they are in NO way fun to play with. These people either will insist they are always one class (even a class that’s not good at the time being, like archery when I wrote this), or insist that the majority of the gold is given to them, or insist on having a certain part of the castle walls, even if it’s a bad spot. Playing with them is like trying to baby-sit a spoiled brat. They expect everything to be done for them, and if THEY lose or mess up, it’s your fault for not giving them all of your gold to beef up his weakling Archers. I will tell you that the game follows a certain progression, that certain classes need gold at certain times, to survive. But these guys don’t know when to stop hogging all the gold.
Let’s say you’re about to face the Queen Spider, a very tough boss monster that can be easily taken care of by Dragon Slayers, which requires a high level of the hunter class. It’s wave 19, and in a four-player match, you can get 4000 gold. This is usually enough to bring the "hunter player" to the right level, and make 4 or 5 Dragon Slayers. However, the "mage player", who gets the most gold here, may refuse to give up any of his gold, and shows this by upgrading until he’s got no gold left. You might as well leave the game, because if things aren’t done in time, you’re dead before you started the frickin’ wave.
Finally, arrogant newbies/midbies are a complete pain if they are the host. If things aren’t done the right way according to them, they boot anyone who goes against it, or even bans them. Their way might, just might be good, but it’s not usually. They want to have an ENTIRE portion of a castle wall, and boots anyone that wants to win and place their units in a good spot. I hate these most of all, because they just wasted 30 minutes of your life.
Blowhardy fools: In general, there are lots of people in this game that are good at a certain class. I try to be good with all classes, but that’s hard work. In rare cases, though, there’s the person who wants to be a certain class, and screws you all over. Let’s say the guy is traps. Wave 21 requires traps in a 4-player level, due to the possibility of the units wiping out your entire force of units. These attackers don’t attack the traps, so powerful enough traps kill them off. The best thing to do is lay a bunch of damage-dealing traps in the rows where the attackers come, killing them before they get a chance to destroy your units. I’ve been in many a game where the "trap player" goes Death Spike crazy. These traps kill instantly, but only a small percent of the time. That won’t get the job done efficiently, so when a person does this, you watch in horror as your hard-claimed Dragon Slayers and Earth Elementals are killed off, just because the trapper couldn’t place a bunch of inexpensive trap. Nice work, idiot.
Most of the time, these guys pretend they’re the best thing in the world when it comes to a certain class, then prove to you how wrong they are. I usually don’t even bother playing a game where someone says "I r mage cuz im the best with thm!!1" because I know they aren’t. These guys are the easiest the spot, but the worst to play with.
Castle is meant to be a fun game. The morons that enter the game take away that fun part. I would love to one day find a bunch of people who know what they’re doing. Then maybe I could get through half of the game without someone leaving on purpose, or building a bunch of weak and pathetic units, or just being stupid.
Last word (ScouSin): Castle.
Castle is one of a few places on BYOND where people think their own little stupid goals mean something. Examples of these stupid goals are the hopes of hoarding all the money, or getting the most kills. None of them understand the concept of working together to get to a high wave. And those that do, always think they are right. Generally, this was the very-well put idea in Game_Hunter's rant.
Another trend that is obvious in the Castle commune is that 50% of the players want to be the 'mage person'. This is sad because there's 4 classes. I personally think that most of them want to be the mage person, because they have their own goals to get the most kills and cash beyond the others. Thus they practically 'control' the team, being the most important player of the group. This often leads to the team losing at wave 13, the mummy wave. This is because they simply have too much magery and too little physical power.
Castle is a great game idea, but it wasn't well-made, considering BYOND's general population.
(TheShadowDude): TheShadowDude.
As SOME of you know me, I am a frequent player of Lode Wars. Everytime I join a team, there's at least one moron who thinks he knows everything about the game. Take Gogeta102 for example. He kills me, and then my Sonic Disrupter surprisingly dissappears(I don't really care). So I kill him. And what does he do? He does just what every other person does.
Gogeta102 was killed by TheShadowDude!
Your reciever crackles with the angry voice of your mining foreman "YOU MORON! You complete and utter waste of oxygen, what the *#@! do ya think you're doin', huh? If you're gonna whack someone, howsabout takin' out the other guys?"
Gogeta102: TEAM KILL
Gogeta102: BAN SHADOW
AJRules9010: how do you lay them?
TheShadowDude: My boss is mad at me
J_who3: gogeta
Gogeta102: BAN SHADOW
J_who3: dont
AJRules9010 was killed by Castone22!
J_who3: let me handle him
Gogeta102: MAN I WANT THE PUSSY BANNED
He calls me a pussy for using micro charges. Oh boy I wonder how else I kill a Horzek with only $1246?
J_who3, is a Bolo. As you may or may not know, Bolos have excellent strength and defense. He tells me to come out of my base and fight him hand to hand.
J_who3: shadow
J_who3: come outside
TheShadowDude: ..
Dannyboy888: man this is tough being a host
TheShadowDude: J_who
J_who3: and face me
TheShadowDude: You are a Bolo
TheShadowDude: I am a scradax
J_who3: u kill my friend u pay the consequences
TheShadowDude: Use your head and think who will win hand to hand
J_who3: u also just weakened me with micros
Anywho, I'm not complaining about dying, and losing my stuff, since I'm trying to get a low amount of money, to see if that helps not getting bogus. However, when people kill me, they think they are the best. They think they can kill ANYONE. I have news for you people: YOU CAN'T.
Whenever I see NeoDestiny kill a newbie, just starting the game, I usually see one of the following things behind that.
"OMG U HAKER U CHEAT"
"U SHOLD B BANED HAKER"
You know what? I don't even know why I take the time out to type all this. I'll just be bombarded by, "fukn pussy", "u r stpid", and shit like that. I don't really care what you say anymore.
Last word (ScouSin): Lode Wars.
This was a gem when I saw it. It explained not only what plagued Lode Wars, but what plagues many BYOND games. The simple message "I" got from this, was that people always think that they are special. The DBZer he logged is an example of thinking that he is immune to rules without question, whereas his ruling on others is genuine and authentic. The quote he got about J_who3 is an example of how people often think that they can pull anything, and when they are proven wrong by a smarter player, they fight back using illogical reasoning about the other player, which in turn makes them feel (or seem) superior. In this case, J_who3 evidentally thinks that he is better than Neo, because Neo was smart and used microcharges on him. The example of a psycho-newbie is simply a stereotypical child freaking out because he wasn't God from the start. Most of the time it's a DBZer who reacts like this.
