Welcome to Paddles Blazing Junior Canoe Club
There will be no canoeing on Thursday 6th August due to canoes being on a camp.
The canoe club is run by the Scout Association and is also affiliated to the British Canoe Union. Our regular paddling sessions are held on the Bridgewater Canal. From 2009 these are at Grappenhall Distict & 25th Warrington Scout Group Campsite behind St Wilfrid's Church, Chuch Lane, Grappenhall. Pleadse visit the advice page and see more details on attendance and rules etc. We will canoe there from 30th April till the evening light fails usually just after the end of the school holidays.
Membership is open to any Warrington East and Warrington West District Scouts. Members pay a weekly subs on attending of £1.50. All members must be able to swim 50 metres in light clothing and stay afloat for 5 minutes thereafter. Members who attend regularly can build their personal kayaking and open canoeing skills level and take the BCU Paddlepower (Purchase a log book for Paddlepower from the club - £3.50) or for the older members from 14 years the BCU Paddepower Star Tests.
Those who develop basic skills including rescue skills can further progress to the BCU Foundation Safety & Rescue Award.
Parents are welcome to join in the activities. Outside of the Bridgewater Canal session specific training days are occasionally organised along with a few river trips for those members who are progressing skills wise.
