State Route 82 - Terminii

Northern Terminus: New England Highway (NH15), Branxton

eb New England Hwy approaching SR82, Branxton 2003. SR82 used to be the major route to Sydney from here, bypassing Newcastle but since the F3 opened to Beresfield in 1993 signs like these were installed to direct motorists to the freeway.

Southern Terminus: F3 (Sydney-Newcastle) Freeway (NH1), Freemans Waterholes Interchange

Left: nb F3 Freeway 500m from SR82, 2003. Right: nb F3 Freeway 500m from SR82, 1998. This sign was installed when the F3 opened to Beresfield in 1993 to inform motorists of the new route north. Previously National Highway 1 had left the F3 here and passed through Kurri Kurri to Hexham.

nb Freemans Dr approaching the southern terminus of SR82, 2003. Until 1989 this section was also SR82.

New (installed 2002) ID sign pointing SR82 traffic onto the freeway, 2003. A whole lot of these signs went up in 2002 all with the wrong shield. I have confirmed this with RTA, Hunter Region that it is just a blooper not a downgrading of the F3 from National Highway status.
