Amateur radio on the Faroe Islands.
The Rubeksen family.
I was born in Tórshavn 1951, and have been living on the Faroes nearly all the time, except some years in Denmark where I have got my education, first as Shopkeeper, and later as Chef, and that is my job at present time. I lead the cafeteria at the Tax office in Argir.
I have two main hobbies, number one is Amateur radio, and my call sign is OY9R, and I also have the call OW9R, but I have never used it on the radio.
My second hobby is riding on my old motor cycle, it is a Honda CX 500 C, and it is 26 years old, but in good shape. It originally came from Germany to the Faroes, two years ago.
I met my wife Súsanna when we were at high school back in 1968, and we ware married in 1978 in Tórshavn.
Súsanna works as a secretary at the pharmacist head office in Tórshavn.
Her hobby is swimming in the local swimming pool every morning at 8´clock, before she goes to work.
We like to take walks nearly every evening after supper, it is a walk which takes about 30 minutes.
There are of course days where it is not possible to take a walk, because the weather can be to bad.
We have two sons, our older son is Sjúrður, and he is 26 years old. Younger he was in scouting, and when he was 17 he was on a trip with the Danish school ship "Danmark" http://www.skoleskibet-danmark.dk for 5 months. They visited the Azores and several small islands in the southern Atlantic ocean.
He have learn to be a electrician in a big company in Tórshavn. He have finish his learning time, and do now work in Stord in Norway. He is repairing oil rigs.He and his girl friend Anna had a son 3,5 years ago, so I´m a grandfather.
This our my second son Mourits, he is 23 years old. He is unemployed at the moment, but is planning to get an education as a chef, like his father. He will get his learning time in some restaurant in Denmark.
A week ago Mourits stated on his education as butcher in the biggest supermarket in Tórshavn, and he love his job.
