What IS Sonic: Overdrive? Sonic: Overdrive is a fangame being developed by yours truly, Neon the Hedgehog, also known as Originally, Sonic: Overdrive went under the name of "Sonic Rush 2" as the game had originated as a fangame sequel to Sonic Rush. However, once Sonic Rush Adventure was discovered, the game's name and main purpose was pretty much trashed. Fortunately, I decided to not make the game a a 'sequel,' but rather just its own game, just with many similarities between the games.   Who IS 'Neon the Hedgehog'? This Neon we're talking about is not myself, but rather my fancharacter for the Sonic series who will be appearing in Sonic: Overdrive. He is paired up with Blaze the Cat as he is from her dimension. I realize that most people will complain about not adding in Silver to the game and kicking poor little Neon out. You see, the game's storyline was created ALL before Sonic the Hedgehog 06 or Sonic Rush Adventure were even known about or released. Thus, adding in Silver would screw up several elements of the game (Excluding the fact that it appears that Silver had never met Blaze because of the time paradox at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog) and the comical elements as well. Neon the Hedgehog is pretty much the comic relief character of the game, and he, in fact, ruins the mood of several serious moments in a funny way. Neon himself isn't always a very serious person, but he gets the job done.   What is Sonic: Overdrive like? Sonic: Overdrive is very much going to end up with the overall feel of Sonic Rush if it comes out right in the end. The graphics will not mimic the game's graphics so much, but it essentially puts Sonic Rush into a Sonic Advance-like world, as many of the sprites are to be made in that style. However, Sonic: Overdrive will have a few extra features that neither of the Sonic Rush games have, including two players that are switchable mid-level and several fun gimmicks and effects special to each stage. (For example, the water level, named "Drowned Kingdom," will include effects for the underwater parts of gameplay, like how Blaze's fire effects will not show up- after all, this IS water!- or how the Super Boost/Fire Boost effects take on a water theme, with a surge of bubbles surrounding Sonic and Co. instead.) But playing the game will feel very much like Sonic Rush, with its high-speed levels, trick system, and the tension gauge to watch. I actually considered naming the game "Sonic Rush Overdrive," but that would emphasize that it is a Sonic Rush sequel, which it is not. I personally don't care whether anyone else has made a fan game with the same title as mine, but (and I assure you, this is simply just me feeling high-and-mighty about what the final product may be) mine will be better.   So, What's the Progress on the Game?
Hey, guess what? I got Game Maker 7 Registered! (as of October 8, 2007) Now work can be resumed, so be glad! The programming is the most important part of a game! Don't worry about progress too much- I'll be sure to get much further overall because I can program some more! |
