Weevil knew Veronica wasn’t in love with him. He wasn’t sure how he felt about her, though. It sure well wasn’t love. He hoped.
He knew Veronica and Logan would end up together. You just didn’t hate that passionately. So when one of his biker friends cracked a joke about the two of them, Weevil wasn’t surprised. But he couldn’t help feeling jealous…..and surprisingly protective. That day, when Logan was chasing after Veronica, and she was so desperately trying to get away, Weevil couldn’t help but feel protective of his girl. Because that was what Veronica was to him. His girl. But he knew Veronica wasn’t in love with him. He remembered their conversation from that day clearly:
“You see when they run away like that, it's kind of a hint they're not interested.” Weevil has said.
“Look, you do not want to start with me today, paco.” Logan growled back.
“Are you sure? It was in my day planner under goals“.
“How is this your business?” Logan said.
“Well I'm just looking out for Veronica. So if you think you're going to lay a hand on her the way you did Lilly…”
“You stay away from Veronica.” Logan had said after a few trivial spats about Lilly.
That’s when he truly knew Logan was in love with Veronica. But Logan knew Veronica wasn’t in love with him.
Weevil always knew Duncan was in love with Veronica. It had always been obvious. It was always a sure thing. Weevil knew that little blonde girl, Meg, knew too. She could try to tell herself that it wasn’t true, but deep down she knew it was. Duncan knew it too, but he also knew that Veronica wasn’t in love with him.
That day when Weevil overheard Veronica say that Logan killed Lilly all he could concentrate on was the extreme hurt and sadness in her voice. He had to hurt Logan the way he hurt Veronica.
Weevil found Logan on the bridge a flask open I his hand. The alcohol was dripping into the motionless body of water below. “Veronica, Veronica.” He was saying his voice hushed, and embedded with hurt, anger, and sadness. Suddenly Weevil knew it wasn’t Logan who hurt Veronica, but Veronica who hurt Logan.
“Logan,” Weevil said calmly.
“Hey!!” Logan said with mock excitement.
“Logan,” Weevil repeated.
“Veronica wouldn’t want you to do this.”
“Yesss, shhhee would.” Logan slurred.
“Shhe’d pushh me herself.”
“No she wouldn’t.” Sighed Weevil, he really didn’t know why he was doing this.
“She loves you.” Weevil pushed out the words calmly. Logan stepped down from the ledge.
“You think so?” Logan said hopefully.
“Yeah, I do.” Weevil lied. Weevil threw a black helmet at the ’09er and told him to get on.
“No way,” Logan said proudly.
“I’m going to Blondie’s. You can come or not.” Logan looked at him stubbornly and got on the bike. Weevil drove to Veronica’s apartment. This was going to be interesting.
Weevil stopped the bike and noticed Logan was starring at the doorway of Veronica’s apartment.
“Is that….” Logan said in disbelief. At the door was Duncan talking to surprised Veronica. Veronica glanced up and saw the two of them starring. It’s true what they say. Veronica really is a marshmallow. At that moment you could see about 90 emotions on her face. And there was one distinct thing Weevil could tell that night. Veronica wasn’t in love with him. Veronica wasn’t in love with Logan. Veronica wasn’t in love with Duncan. She was in love with all three of them. And they were in love with her.

Duncan had gone to look for Veronica. To say he was sorry. To promise her he would never hurt her. To ask her if she knew something about him he didn’t. But she was nowhere to be found. He knew she wasn’t his Veronica anymore. She wouldn’t be in Lilly’s room laughing, or sitting on the beach tanning, or sipping cappuccinos at The Hut. It made sense that she had changed. But Duncan hadn’t, not really. He drove around for hours, it seemed, looking for her. Maybe it was only minutes. He could never really tell, anymore. Not sense Lilly. He drove aimlessly, just hoping to spot her blonde head in the crowd. It wasn’t until he took that road that led pass the Camelot, that he saw it. If he hadn’t turned his head right at that moment, he would have never saw Veronica‘s car. But he did and that’s the important thing. A thought ran through his head about why Veronica would be here, but he hastily pushed it aside. All that mattered was that she was. He was so concentrated on finding her that he didn’t even notice Logan’s Jeep next to her car. He walked towards the stone steps, but froze when he saw Logan emerge from one of the rooms. He told himself it was just a coincidence, but he couldn’t help but remember times when he saw Logan and Veronica talking that he swore he saw that “look” in his eyes. But maybe it was just a coincidence. That’s what he told himself, anyways. Duncan watched Logan pace, nervously. And then he saw her. Veronica emerged from the same room and walked up to Logan. Duncan took a deep breath. Be calm, he told himself, It’s probably nothing. He couldn’t hear what they were saying, but he could see. He could see too well that Veronica kissed Logan. And that Logan grabbed Veronica and began kissing her longer, deeper. Like he had kissed Lilly. Duncan stepped back, stumbling, not wanting them to see him, like some Peeping Tom.
Duncan gripped the stirring wheel until deep red blood spilled from his hands. He would leave, he decided. And when he came back, he would make sure Veronica chose between them. Once and for all.
