Papal Definitions Ex-Cathedra

Baptism in some form is neccessary for salvation:

"Also, the souls of those who have incurred no stain of sin whatsoever after baptism, as well as souls who after incurring the stain of sin have been cleansed whether in their bodies or outside their bodies, as was stated above, are straightaway received into heaven and clearly behold the triune God as he is, yet one person more perfectly than another according to the difference of their merits. But the souls of those who depart this life in actual mortal sin, or in original sin alone, go down straightaway to *hell to be punished, but with **unequal pains."- Ecumenical Council of Basle session VI

*Hell means seperation from God, that is understood if a person is unbaptized and does not recieve baptism whether by water, desire, or blood or the theoretical and undefined "baptism of the dead" spoken of at the unapproved Apparition of Medjurije or the writings of St Paul, which neither condemns or approves of it. Though it is popular to believe that somehow infants can be baptized somehow in the next life and go to heaven. A previous declaration of baptism worded it that the unbaptized would not see the ' vision of God' , and used the word hell for those who died in mortal sin:

"The punishment of original sin is the deprivation of the vision of God; of actual sin, the eternal pains of hell." -Pope Innocent III (III Decr., xlii, 3)

** Unequal pains in the council may mean that the unbaptized, though sinless, may not be punished in hell because they have not sinned, or atleast not punished to the same extent as a sinner.

Baptism unresolved today

To this day it is unsure of the fate of the infant who have died without being baptized with water and if they are beneficiaries of baptism of desire, or some form of other worldly baptism. The 1992 Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

"As regards children who have died without Baptism, the Church can only entrust them to the mercy of God, as she does in her funeral rites for them. Indeed, the great mercy of God who desires that all men should be saved, and Jesus' tenderness toward children which caused him to say: "Let the children come to me, do not hinder them," allows us to hope that there is a way of salvation for children who have died without Baptism. All the more urgent is the Church's call not to prevent little children coming to Christ through the gift of holy Baptism."

Power of Peter and the Authority of the Pope and other Patriarchs:

"We also define that the holy apostolic see and the Roman pontiff holds the primacy over the whole world and the Roman pontiff is the successor of blessed Peter prince of the apostles, and that he is the true vicar of Christ, the head of the whole church and the father and teacher of all Christians, and to him was committed in blessed Peter the full power of tending, ruling and governing the whole church, as is contained also in the acts of ecumenical councils and in the sacred canons."

"Also, renewing the order of the other patriarchs which has been handed down in the canons, the patriarch of Constantinople should be second after the most holy Roman pontiff, third should be the patriarch of Alexandria, fourth the patriarch of Antioch, and fifth the patriarch of Jerusalem, without prejudice to all their privileges and rights."- Ecumenical Council of Basle session VI

Union with the Pope is neccessary for Salvation:

"Now, therefore, we declare, say, determine and pronounce that for every human creature it is necessary for salvation to be subject to the authority of the Roman pontiff" (Porro subesse Romano Pontifici omni humanae creaturae declaramus, dicimus, definimus, et pronuntiamus omnino esse de necessitate salutis). - Unam Sanctam issued 18 November, 1302, by Pope Boniface VIII

"That it is of the necessity of salvation for all Christ's faithful to be subject to the Roman pontiff" (De necessitate esse salutis omnes Christi fideles Romano Pontifici subesse) -- Fifth Ecumenical Council of the Lateran, in 1516

The Blessed Virgin Mary's Immaculate Conception:

"The Blessed Virgin Mary, in the first instant of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of Almighty God, and in view of the foreseen merits of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the human race, was preserved free from all stain of original sin."- 1854 by Pope Pius IX

The belief of the Assumption of Mary is neccesary for salvation (but does not specify whether Mary died)

"We pronounce, declare, and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma:

that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory."

--MUNIFICENTISSIMUS DEUS issued in 1950 by Pope Pius XII
