By any name, singer has Chick approval

By Mary Rogers - Star-Telegram Staff Writer
Over a recent lunch, Laura Lynch Tull, a former Dixie Chick and now a painter and an enthusiastic advocate for the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, couldn't stop talking about Elizabeth "Lizzie" Blum.
" 'Elizabeth' sounds too refined," Laura said between bites of raw fish at Tokyo Cafe. "I like 'Lizzie' for the stage, spelled with two z's."
Laura is always and forever searching for new musical talents, and she believes Elizabeth, or "Lizzie," has star potential. "She's got the looks and the talent," said Laura. Better yet, Elizabeth who may become "Lizzie," owns that mysterious want-to factor, that drive that is a key ingredient for any success.
Elizabeth Blum may shorten her name to Lizzie -- or she may not. How 'bout "Elizzie"? At any rate, she is the daughter of Laurie and Marvin Blum, who are well-known in Cowtown. Laurie is a community volunteer, and Marvin is a tax attorney who has been involved with the Miss Texas Pageant for more than a dozen years.
Elizabeth-who-may-become-Lizzie cut her teeth on the beauty pageant circuit competing for Miss Teen crowns. But for the past five years she's been polishing her singing skills by performing with Johnnie High's Country Music Revue. This foot-stomping, finger-snapping variety show is the place country music sensation LeAnn Rimes got her start. So did Steve Holy, Lee Ann Womack, Box Car Willie and dozens more.
Elizabeth has already performed in Las Vegas for a RadioShack event, and later this month she'll jet off to Colorado for a concert. When she gets back, it will be just about time to start rehearsals for a revival of Cowgirls Live Forever, a performance by Arlington's Metropolitan Classical Ballet. (Find it at Bass Performance Hall on Labor Day.)The first show, in 1994, feautured vocals by the original Dixie Chicks. Laura was the lead singer then. This revival will feature Miss Blum in that part, and Laura is stepping in as a consultant.
