I concentrate on making jewelry that will remain beautiful for a long time. I use beads from everywhere; primarily glass, but also ceramic, bone, pearl, and semi-precious stones. For strength, I use nylon-coated stainless steel wire for the base of most of my jewelry, except where intricacy demands monofilament. This makes for an extremely strong piece of jewelry, so you can count on it to last, with reasonable care. If it ever breaks, please return it to me and I will repair it and mail it back to you free. (It's not very likely that it will break) I also use magnetic clasps, unless you'd prefer an adjustable closure.
