"Don't make to much noise!!!!!"
Is what one Brentford fan heard from one of his fellow Bees fan, as he chanted "come you Bees" as his side scored at high flying Chester City.
Martin Cumbridge tell us his story:
" Chester City away! Do I travel 4 hours upto the English/Welsh border? Of course. Chester City of recently have been reaching dizzy heights of late, and us londoners were more than happy to put an end to there run. As I arrived in Chester, I pulled on my Brentford shirt. As it was my first visit to Chester I had no idea where their ground was! So I asked one of the friendly locals, only to tell me I had "to walk round there and come back on myself and follow the signs" so in theory I was justing walking in a "U" shape...anyway moving on to the match itself, I eventually arrived at the Deva Stadium where we were placed behind the goal which I thought was a Terrace, apparently not, it got changed to an all seater stand and the beginning of the season, but, it didn't stop the Brentford faithful from standing, and relaxed and friendly stewards allowed this. The game was average, both team seemed to cancel each other out (although many will disagree) but then it came, the moment and the reason I travelled all that way, Brentford had scored, Lee Thorpe who we signed at the beginning of the season from relegated Torquay put us ahead on the 53rd minute from then on, in my opinion it was all Brentford and on the stroke of full time Moore scored to double our lead, on the 90th minute. That’s when it happened. I shouted at the top of my voice “Come on Bees”. At that point a man in his mid thirties told me to “shut up” as I was making to much noise, this shocked me incredibly, was he joking? No! He followed his comment of “Shut up” with “what do you think this is? A Rock concert?” Which I replied “No, it’s a football match. What do you think this is? A library?” I thought that’s what happened at football matches, you chanted and spurred your team on? Or am I still living in the 80’s?
Well all in all the atmosphere was crap, due to the overall attendance being 2,543.
