Ontario Storm Chaser

Welcome to the Ontario Storm Chaser AKA. OSC. Anyways this site will be for weather in and around Canada and the United States. Hurricane information, tornadoes and everything severe weather. Anyways my name is Matt Horton and I live in Tottenham, Ontario, im 19 years old and love severe weather. And one day would love to see a tornado or experience a Hurricane. There is a blog from anybody that wishes to talk weather.

I'm Back

Sorry about the long lay off and not editing the site things have been very busy over the past month or so. Anyways I'm going to try and get things back up and running in the next month as tornado season approaches. Already we have had a Tornado Watch in the Windsor area so hopefully that is a sign of things to come.

Winter Weather Warning for much of southern Ontario

A winter warning has been issued been Environment Canada for much of Southern Ontario. Here is what the warning is stating.

..Snow arriving tonight then mixed with freezing rain Sunday..

This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

A major winter storm over Colorado is tracking northeastward towards southern Ontario. Snow is expected to arrive over southwestern Ontario by early this evening then become mixed with freezing rain and ice pellets. The wintery mix of precipitation will move east towards cottage country and the greater Toronto area tonight with the majority of the freezing rain and ice pellets falling on Sunday.

5 centimetres of snow will likely fall over southwestern Ontario by Sunday morning before the precipitation changes over to rain while close to 15 centimetres is expected over the Niagara Escarpment. The greater Toronto area will see 10 centimetres of snow before the snow ice pellets and freezing rain changes over to rain Sunday afternoon.

East of the line extending from Midland to Peterborough the precipitation will remain frozen. As a result the snowfall amounts will be higher with 5 to 10 centimetres falling tonight and another 10 to 15 Sunday. The snow will become mixed with freezing rain and ice pellets Sunday night.

Regions over eastern Ontario including Ottawa and Gatineau will not see snow beginning until Sunday morning with the heaviest snow falling Sunday night into Monday morning. The snow will be mixed with ice pellets and possibly freezing rain especially in the Ottawa Valley. Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres is possible by Monday morning with an additional 10 to 15 by Monday evening.

Travel will be dangerous across Ontario as the snow may possibly be heavy at times which can cause brief whiteout conditions. Furthermore roads will be snow covered and slippery due to freezing rain and ice pellets.

At this point in time there is still uncertainty in the track of the low. If the low tracks further north a higher percentage of the precipitation will fall as rain. Alternately if the low tracks further south the snowfall amounts will be higher than currently indicated in the forecast.

Environment Canada will continue to monitor the situation as new information arrives.

This map will update as warnings and watchs are issued I think.

Winter Weather Has Arrived

Tuesday night most of Southern Ontario was hit by lake effect showers and later in the day lake effect snow. The snow storm was very intense and visibility was very low. I was on my way to Nobleton to referee a hockey game and the experience was amazing. Anyways we got hit with some more snow this afternoon and is forecast to continue into tomorrow. Sadly no video was taken of the snow storm.
