Welcome to Ontario Herps. The goal of this site is to showcase all of the reptiles and amphibians (collectively called herps) native to the province of Ontario, Canada. Most people do not realize the diversity we have in this province, as few people ever get to see a lot of our roughly 46 species that occur in the wild in Ontario. This site has a few sections:
1. An online field guide to the herps of Ontario. There is a page for each species, complete with sections for identification, life history, and ecology. Also, there is a range map and photos for each species.
2. Trip reports from the places where I have herped. Most of them focus on Ontario, however there are a few from other areas around North America.
3. Life Lists. Basically they are lists of herps or birds I have found in different areas. "Listing" shouldn't be the main goal of a herper or a birder, as it ishould be about exploring new areas and observing different species to learn more about them. However, having a life list is a fun way to keep track of what you have seen, when you saw it, and where you saw it. If you are interested in herps, birds, or other organisms, I encourage you to start a list if you haven't already.
Thanks for visiting my site, and I hope you can appreciate the diversity of herps we have here in Ontario. Check back regularly as I update the site frequently.
