O.N.E.W.I.L.D.W.O.R.L.D. April 30th "Dive In" To Earthday Clean Up News
A Great BIG Thank you goes out to ALL of YOU who lended a hand and helped make the April 30th "Dive In" to earthday a Success! our beaches & waterways on the Treasure Coast, Ft Pierce, St Lucie County are looking better and better due to your efforts and support! 106 Volunteers came out to help lend a hand and clean up local beaches & the waterways in St Lucie County, ft Pierce Volunteers were made up of Students from Dr Loehrs, Indian River Community College Chemistry & Science classes, students from other marine & science classes,friends, families, scouts groups,teams of people and group efforts, surfers and more. The Limon Dive Scuba Team (Melbourne Florida!) came out to support our efforts and do an Underwater clean up DIVE, but, due to high winds and rough ocean the clean up dive was postponed...divers stayed and helped clean the beaches instead ... : ) beach clean up Check In's were set up at North Beach at Pepper Park by the UDT Seal Museum and on South Beach at our OLD " Adopted" beach site at Surfside Beach ...aprox 800-3000 lbs of trash was removed from the shorelines overall... kids and families joined in to help clean with us and others represented their scout troops and clubs and more. Families enjoying a day at the beach picked up trash bags and joined in too. There were Volunteers from the SLC Conservation Alliance, SLC Volunteers from the ARC, Surfers, lifeguards... individuals "walked" up to see what was going on ...they too grabbed a bag and joined in ...some were from as far away as Virginia Beach and New Jersey... a lunch and celebration for all was held at the held at the pavillion on North beach and sponsored by Lee & Gary Hedrick of O.N.E.W.I.L.D.W.O.R.L.D, Coca Cola Ft Pierce & Crystal Water donated beversges, lunch for all was donated by Gary Hedrick and cooked up by the Boy Scouts Troop 466 ..everyone joined in and donated their time to assist with the lunch prep and serving of lunch for all Volunteers ...way to GO guys...Thank YOU!!! : ) Grandparents, locals of Ft Pierce and the Islands joined in too...Volunteers from Martin County, Palm City, Vero Beach and Jensen Beach ... we appreciate the SLC Conservation Alliance Group , Peggy Fisher of Vero Beach Seaside Scoop, the Hometown News, Sharon Wernlund of Palm Beach Post and Kelly Bruce of YourHub.com who HELPED "Get the Word Out " to the communities on th Treasure coast about this effort. All Volunteers recieved a goody bags filled with goodies and educational materials from local sponsors and supporters of "clean beaches" prizes & giveaways included educational materials from the Coral Reef Alliance "Dive In" to Earthday, Ocean Conservancy, NOAA, WYLAND Ocean Challenge, everyone recieved passes to the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center, Pro Cuts hair cut coupons & and discounts, Marvel Character Comic trading cards, sun care and hair care by Paul Mitchell,prize drawings were held & Volunteers won gifts donatee to our cause from Guy Harvey, the Palm Beach Zoo, Florida Oceanographic Coastal center, fishing hats, O.N.E.W.I.L.D.W.O.R.L.D.t-shirts, candles, art and other great gifts & educational support materials from Project Aware, The Ocean Conservancy, Wyland OceanChallenge,NOAA,Seafood Guides, more giveaways donated by friends and Community supporters who LIKE Clean Beaches, Healthy, Clean waterways and more made for a FUN day for all. We appreciate your stewardship and beach clean up efforts! The children enjoyed coloring WYLAND Dolphin pages. All were so great everyone won a prize for their efforts! A special thank you to volunteers Becky, Sharon W, Kim P, Greta C, Joe C, Gary H, David K, Brian H, Dennis L, Geri S, Ron B, Marcia B, Anne Marie T, Randy D, Scott M, Brian D, Joshua and Justin D and George "The Irishman" for all YOU DO each time we meet for a clean up ... : ) Thanks again to EveryONE. We cant DO this without YOU! Please JOIN US again and HELP US organize a local clean up September 16th 2006. volunteers will meet at 9:00am for clean up CHECK IN at various beachlocations in Ft pierce. Volunteers are encouraged to CHECK IN for a at Surfside Beach on South Beach and at Pepper Park, Ft Pierce on the north beaches. Volunteers will be set up there to greet you and hand out clean up supplies. We still need a sponsor and volunteers to provide LUNCH, prize giveaways and Volunteer Appreciation for all! Please call to help or let us know what YOU can do to make the Sept 16th clean up a SUCCESS.
