Introduction

Vertices or Vertexes: I use both, don't know why, but they're the same don't worry!

This tutorial shows you how modeling with Vertices can imrove Low Poly, even detailed models. A lot of times using cylinders, or boxes, spheres etc. just doesn't cut it. And it's a pain to actually making your model low poly modelling it that way. The solution: Vertexes.

Modeling with Vertecies

To capture what you want with detail, but low poly is tricky, but not always. So you might want to try using the vertecies.

  • To start off with you may want to apply a background image if you are recreating something, or if you drew it out on a napkin at the local coffee shop.

  • Right-Click in any Veiwport and select "Choose Background Image"

  • Select your Image and click "OK" Now it should appear in that Viewport.

  • Now select the Vertexes button, and place it on the lines of your image. Here is an example...
  • After we have placed the Vertexes, we must create the faces.

  • To do this, simply select THREE vertexes, and press [F] on the keyboard.

  • After a while it should turn out to look like this...

  • But this is only 2D, we must make it 3D now.

  • A simple way of doing this is Duplicating these faces to the opposite side.

  • Now we must connect them together. This is where you get creative. Remember Three vertexes make a face, and only three.

  • You can connect 123 to create a face, then 12and4 to create another one! It's very simple. Eventually it will turn out to look like after adding everything and extra details...

  • This is how you go from a 79 poly face to a 36 poly face.
