The first ever online dachshund wedding took place on the The Hotdog Blog on Saturday April 1, 2006 and began in true dachsie fashion…a state of total chaos and panic. Harry was very chivalrous and rescued all those who were trapped in the Dog Park (chat room) managing to get them to the Wedding Chapel (chat room) on time. The bride arrived late having found herself stuck in the dressing room all alone and unable to locate the exit. PeeWee was eager to walk down the aisle with her little basket of dogwood petals and was very stunning in her floral flower girl dress. The groom arrived somewhat nervous and a little hung-over from his last “Boy's Night Out.” He had much coffee before the wedding so now he was hung-over and wired to boot (not a good combination). To be honest, all of the groomsmen were either hung-over, still intoxicated or had a little hair-of-the-human prior to the wedding.

Laura was the color commentator giving a great blow-by-blow of the day's event. PeeWee continued to wait patiently as she so badly wanted to spread her dogwood petals down the aisle. The groom had managed to lose a shoe somewhere along the line and tended to lean a little to one side until the best man Zorro leant him one of his. The bridesmaids were beautiful sights to see in their lovely pink formals. Heather and Ridley were in perfect voice having practiced for months to be ready for the big day. Heidi and Fiona did a terrific job taking all the wedding photos until they realized they had forgot to purchase film. Max did unfortunately, tip over at one point and then proceed to throw up on Sunny's shoes right before walking the bride down the aisle. PeeWee graciously offered up her basket for him, but he managed to regain his composure just in the nick of time. The bride was on the verge of hyperventilating but was comforted by Max and managed to thankfully pull herself together before reaching the alter.

Harry was uncontrollable and howled throughout the ceremony, mostly in all the right places. Laura momentarily got the crowd under control so that Chaplain Chuck could finally begin the ceremony. Heather and Ridley did a beautiful rendition of Elton John's “Circle of Life” with true hound dog flare. PeeWee had an unfortunate incident do to some chili she had the night before, but everyone managed to overlook her gassiness. By this point Laura and Chaplain Chuck had completely lost control of the congregation.

Zorro and Harry (well, more Zorro than Harry) seemed to be totally oblivious to the fact that a wedding was taking place. Rusty and Roo did somehow manage to exchange vows even though the bride was temporarily lost in action, but managed to find her way back quickly.

Tears were shed and tissues passed as they exchanged their charms with each other. Thankfully, Rhuari was able to step in as charm bearer at the last minute and did a great job carrying the little pillow and not letting the charms slide off.

Zorro became perturbed when Rusty told Roo he was her best friend for life, but Rusty assured him he was still his best “GUY” friend.

The moment finally came when Chaplain Chuck pronounced Rusty and Roo “dog and wife.” There were cheers, tears and a lot of howling especially, when the groom kissed the bride. Then Chaplain Chuck introduced Mr. and Mrs. Rusty Reed to all their friends and with that the reception was underway!

There was cheese, cake, beef and champagne for all. There was talk of where they were going on their honeymoon as Rusty had kept it a secret from everyone including Roo. Roo was so excited to hear that they were going to a romantic and secluded cabin on Mackinac Island .

Laura had to tell Heather and Ridley that they could stop singing. Being they practiced so much I guess they just wanted to sing their little hearts out in appreciation for being asked. Max and Hughie were found all alone in separate corners of the room hoarding the champagne, but Zorro managed to get most of it away from them.

Roo gathered all the ladies together so she could toss the bouquet and that's when all hell broke loose. Sweet, precious, little, PeeWee dove across the room in her best dress to make the catch of the century, but then there was some sort of a tussle and Amy and/or Brandy now had the bouquet. PeeWee was heartbroken. After a little coaxing Amy and/or Brandy gave it back to PeeWee and all was well with the world once again. PeeWee was a bit concerned that someone may have seen her pregnant bloomers (undies) when she dove across the room, but Laura assured her that her dignity was still intact.

It was then Rusty's turn to remove Roo's garter and fling it to the boys. As Roo sat on Rusty's lap he gently and discreetly removed the garter. Once the boys were all gathered around, Rusty flung the garter across the room as everyone (especially, PeeWee) waited in anticipation to see who would come up with it. Zorro dove across the room with grace and finesse and caught the garter in his mouth. PeeWee ran at the speed of light to give Zorro a kiss.

Chaplain Chuck had quite the dilemma when he could not find the phone booth he had used to turn from “just plain Chuck” into “Chaplain Chuck” and so now he could not turn back.

Cheese trays were passed around and PeeWee did “da cheese dance.” Someone asked Roo if there was any cheesecake and she replied that there was cheez whiz and cake and they could use them in any combination they wished.

Rusty and Roo cut the cake and very sweetly fed it to each other without incident.

There was some concern amongst the guests when they realized Chaplain Chuck seemed to be drinking with both hands but he maintained his composure for the rest of the reception.

It was then time for the best man to make his toast. Zorro did a remarkable job and made the most moving of toasts to the happy couple. Rusty held Roo in his arms and kissed her as his best friend spoke of their love for each other and what a changed man Rusty had become since he met Roo. PeeWee was licking all the spills off the floor, so I don't think she really heard any of Zorro's speech. Everyone toasted the happy couple and wished them well.

Rusty and Roo then thanked everyone for coming and celebrating their special day with them. The milk bone boxes had been tied to the back of the limo and there was plenty of kibble ready to be tossed at the bride and groom. As Rusty and Roo ran down the steps of the wedding chapel they were bombarded with kibble which PeeWee was now throwing by the bucket full. As the limo pulled away Zorro was seen with a tear in his eye as his best buddy and new wife left for their honeymoon.

Zorro was so afraid that Roo would no longer allow Rusty to go with him for “boy's night out,” but Zorro called Rusty in the limo and Rusty assured him that nothing was going to change between them and that they would always be best buds.

The few stragglers left at the reception finished off the cheese trays and then left to go home and recuperate from all the fun, food and bowls of champagne.

In the end the first ever online dachsie wedding was fun for all and proves that when a bunch of little dachshunds set their minds to something they WILL accomplish it.
