In the Fall of 1999 the search for an Hermandad which would foster unity, support the efforts of Latina women and create unbreakable bonds began. By the end of the semester it was decided that Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. was the ideal organization for professional women who wanted a focus on La Cultura Latina, La Comunidad and La Hermandad.

In the Fall of 2000, women from the University of Delaware decided to officially pursue their interest in the organization in order to bring a chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. to the Newark, Delaware collegiate community. After two years of interest, four strong, dedicated women began the journey towards Hermandad in the Fall of 2001. On November 26th, 2001 the Newark, Delaware Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. was founded by Simone Delerme, Danielle Juan, Kristie Morffi and Julissa Gutierrez.
