Bayou Collection of Underground Comix

. . .it doesn't get any better than this!

Overview of UG Price Guides

So you wanna know what that old stash of undergrounds is worth these daze?  Here are a few resources that will get you well on your way...

Supplement to the FUG by Dan Fogel (Pending 2008-2009)
Due out in 2008, the Supplement to the FUG appends Fogel's Guide with information on thousands more mini-comix  and hundreds of British titles and rarities.   Additional articles, collector information, and updated guide values for core u-comix titles.

Fogel’s Underground Comix Price Guide by Dan Fogel (ASIN: B000FDN8RY)
Recently published in 2006, Fogel’s Underground Guide (termed the FUG) is the first comprehensive reference guide on UGs in over 24 years.  Strengths:  Updated pricing for over 1,000 underground titles, pricing data derived from years of data from leading sources (eBay, GPAnalysis, Heritage) and senior advisors closely tied with UGs, updated printing information for most UGs published after 1982, important updates to information originally presented in Kennedy (1982), updated adult comix listings.  Weaknesses:  Depth of Kennedy 1982’s information on artistic contribution and distinguishing printings simply not possible today, some typos, inclusion of adult or ‘porn’ comix (some say).  Printing information, while largely simplified and definitive, should be supplemented with the Visual Guide to Underground Comix Reprints available at www.ugcomix.info/.

The Comic Art Price Guide (2nd edition) by Jerry Weist (ISBN: 0970092202)
Nestled within this August 2000 guide to original comic art is a small section on UGs (<1/6th of the book), which was intended be a market check and supplement to Kennedy (1982) for a subset of popular UG titles (e.g. Freak Brothers, Zap Comix, Air Pirates, Gothic Blimp Works, etc.).

The Official Underground & Newave Comix Price Guide by Jay Kennedy (ISBN: 0960665439)
Published in 1982, this is widely held as the seminal reference for UGs.  Strengths: exhaustive data on artists, artistic contribution, and printing for UGs and ‘newaves’ (now commonly termed ‘minis’ or ‘indies’) published before 1981-82.  Weaknesses:  Woefully out of date pricing information, no information post-1982, long out-of-print expensive tome, ‘newave’ term never adopted, will not be updated as Jay Kennedy died in 2007.
