News from the Front

02/07/09 - I'm back. Well not much in the way of modern military stuff on Sardinia, lots of Medieval and Renaissance stuff. Although I did take some photo's of some WWII decaying concrete at the town of Bosa which is situated on the islands only navigable river. I will put the pics in the terrain gallery when I get a chance. Discovered that Sardinia raised a whole brigade in WWI "Brigata Sassari", Emilio Lussu recorded his experiences in "Sardinian Brigade" a quick search on the net finds that copies are available, although at ridiculous prices, as seems to be the norm with booksellers these days. Since getting back I have completed 6 barbed wire sections and finished 2 Germans for the Great War, will try and get some pics up over the weekend.  Managed a game of Wings of War over at GHQ last night being shot down in a closely fought contest, we usually do best of three but the weather got too much for us so we had a beer and chat instead. I have a job interview tomorrow so wish me luck.

19/06/09 - Busy week before my holiday, finished the Napoleonic French battalion, just six skirmishers to do now. For my own stuff I finished four more Danes for the Schleswig-Holstein War and I have started four more Isabelino infantry for the First Carlist War. I have aso done a German HMG team and two British bombers for the Great War. Speaking of the Great War Dave and myself plyed another scenario from the Two Fat Lardies, Through the Mud and Blood supplement Stout Hearts and Iron Troopers. This turned out to be our quickest game, just 45 minutes! The Germans took cover after the initial British bombardment and flatly refused to come out and were subsequently caught in the shelters by the attacking Brits. You might think that this was a sort of none game, but far from it, it was quite exciting. If you have an interest in gaming the Great War then I throughly recommend trying TM&B, they give the best feel of all the rules I have tried so far. I am off to Sardinia tomorrow, not sure if there is owt of military interest there, have only just picked up a guide book, I will let you know. Ciao!

11/06/09 - Hi, not much on the painting front at the moment, not strictly true as I am painting some Napoleonic French at the moment to finance my own figure purchases. Game wise had a rather splendid pulp game at GHQ last week with Dave and Jon, losing all my characters meant I came third I supposeThe game was set during the 1930's in Egypt, I was the Brits, Jon was the Germans whilst Dave controlled the archeologists and the nasties, we used the ever useful Astounding Tales rules. Last night at Olaf's HQ we had another Great War action using Through the Mud and Blood, we are really getting into these now with the games moving at a cracking pace, yet again poor firing and spotting by the German forces contributed to their downfall, to be fair however, Dave's tactical handling also played its part. I must mention our trip to Partizan, this was a splendid show as usual, I was rather spoiled by there being no less than four Great War games and each in a different theatre! It would be unfair to single out any particular games, as most were superb efforts. Picked up the latest releases from Anglian Miniatures and some flags for the First Carlist War project. One of the classic Partizans in my book, I don't think I will be attending a show now until the next Partizan.

28/05/09 - Posted pics of my completed Schleswig-Holstein unit in the 19th Gallery also a pic of a further base of Carlists towards my Navarre battalion.
