Okinawan Te

Integral Martial & Health Art

Preface

This book site is dedicated to the practice, preservation and progression of Okinawan Te.  This martial, meditative and medicinal (health) art, once secret and still rarely practised, is known under many guises e.g. Ti, Di, Motobu Udun Di, Goten Te and others.

Having spent the first half of my martial arts training fully immersed in a military based Japanese style of Karate whose emphasis was on a strict hierarchy of obedience and competitive prowess, it was a breath of fresh air to break free completely to the source of Karate. First by looking at its Tode (or Chinese Karate) and then Okinawa’s ancient indigenous art of Te.

Although it is probably inaccurate to call anything indigenous, as influences would have happened through pre-history and modern, Te has a long ancestry maybe even dating back to 650 A.D. Its martial techniques and nurturing qualities along side its creative drive to survive, resurface and propagate make it ideal for those who want a complete living art without the need of having to integrate other styles.

Having also trained and taught in Shiatsu, Tai Chi, Yoga and exercise and fitness, Te has the essential principles of them all and more.
