OIWC OVERVIEW
The Okinawa International Women's Club is an organization made up of women from all over the world who gather at monthly events to promote friendship and cultural exchange while at the same time raising funds and awareness for different charities all over the Pacific realm. The OIWC, as it is affectionately known, is a non-profit organization that has been around for 55 years. In those years, the organization has donated food, clothing, money and many other items to those in need. Today, women from all over the world gather each month at various locations all over Okinawa so that they can make new and lifelong friends.
The luncheons are hosted alternately by the Japanese and foreign membership. The club year runs from September until June. Women may join the club at any time during the year. Membership fees are 3000 yen for the year which covers the cost of monthly entertainment, table decorations, misc administrative costs and charity. The average cost for the monthly luncheons are 2800 yen for off base locations and $20.00 for on base locations. The luncheon cost pays for the food and service only.
Some of the events that take place in the organization are, cooking classes, craft shows, themed luncheons, tours on and off island and many other fun and exciting events. OIWC offers smaller extensions of the main membership in order to provide a more personal setting for learning about and sharing the many cultures that are on the island. These culture groups are made up of 10 to 12 women who meet at times that are convenient for each group. Daytime, evening, weekend and child friendly groups are available. The OIWC is an excellent organization to join if you want to learn the local languages, experience many cultures and see all of the fascinating sites this tropical paradise has to offer. The only prerequisite is that you be a woman who isn't afraid to have fun!
