The Oglethorpe Hotel

January 9, 1888-November 16, 1958

No expense had been spared.  The mantels elegant and costly, with beveled glass mirrors and Japanese beaded portieres and valances at the alcoved entrances.   Superb crystal chandeliers, pendens's and globes with delicate etchings.  Marvels of beauty....

Built of Chattahoochee River hard brick (over 3 million), the Oglethorpe Hotel was flanked by turrets and a wide veranda, 240 feet in length, beckoning guests to the grand parlor.  Crystal chandeliers, polished floors , and a painting, The Battle of Flanders, once greeted those who entered her doors.
