Very nice site. I am a collector of all types of model engines. I started with model airplane engines and have branched out into many others. Steam tends to be my favorite at the present time. I go to a lot of shows and bring many with me. I have over 1000 engines complete and many needing work to bring them back. Ken

HI, MY NAME IS CHUCK. I, ALSO , AT THE AGE 8 RECEIVED A JENSEN. MY DAD TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS THE ONE ULTIMATE TOY THAT HE ALWAYS WHATED WHEN HE WAS A CHILD AND NEVER COULD AFFORD. I THINK HE ALWAYS STILL WHATED ONE. SO, IVE REPAYED HIM BY GETTING AN ACCUCRAFT ENGINE AND A WILESCO SHOWMAN. NOW THAT I HAVE AN 8 YEAR OLD GRANDSON IVE PAST THE LOVE OF STEAM ON TO HIM. NO VIDIOT GAMES FOR HIM. WE RECENTLY WENT TO TO THE SACAMENTO RAIL MUSEUM AND HE PROUDLY COULD NAME THE TRAINS AND MOST OF THE MAJOR PARTS.

Hello. I'm wondring if you are aware of The Bowman Circle? There is a website and a newsletter. Can't remember how many members (150-200?). We meet annually in February at the Abbey Pumping Station. I am GBJ's grandaughter; my father and uncle are joint presidents of The Bowman Circle.

Hi Mooseman,
Just left off talking to a mate here at work. He is bringing me a bagful of Meccano (my first love) and the remains of a Bowman engine. Then I googled for Bowman and found you!
Have a fair spread of Bowmans, Mamod, SEL , Wilesco and so on - and love the old 101. Great website - will revisit regularly.
See you at STIA
Best Regards

Hi Odilon

Thank you for contacting me. And thank you also for your compliments regarding my HOBBIES Arrow Design.

I am so pleased that you like it and found it as sucessful as I did.

You were fortunate in having a real Bowman engine for it.

Since leaving HOBBIES last year I have had little opportunity to build models, Having started my own business, but I still have an interest in the grand old company. you can see several of my other models at their website www.alwayshobbies.com

I
must congratulate you on your most excellent website well done !
It is most informative and obviously an encouragement to many other model makers.

Kindest regards

Martin

I really enjoy your site. I cannot say that I am a real collector, but I got interestet when I found an old Bing Storkleg at a flee market. It is not in running condition it is missing several parts, but I intend to try to restore it.
Therefore I searched on the net and luckily I found your site which has increased my interest in carrying out the restoration.

Hoi Odilon:

Great site! I just found out the old toy my great uncle gave me back in the 60's is a Bing 1686 from early last century. It still runs after being completely dismantled and having the site glass replaced. Form-a-Gasket works wonders. I'm not a collector but do find mechanical devices of all kinds extremely interesting.

A delight to discover Yes I love small live steam too but my family complains at the meths smell!! Fortunately, there are still a few places where the Health & safety people don't quite realise what you are up to ,Long may it last . We run Bassett Lowke on the outer track and BowmEn plural on the inside.Yep opposite directions, too we lots of boys with grey/white/nil hair watching for the inevitable crashes./ The best lubricant I've discovered is 2-stroke oil keep steaming Bob

When I was a boy of 7;I visited the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit and was fascinated by the very large stationary steam engines on display there. Subsequently I recieved a toy steam engine as a gift. I never knew there were accesories and unfortunately I no longer have it. I'm not sure what brand it was, although from what I remember, it looks like it was a Wilesco, something like a D10. Anyway, something brought it to mind recently and I was considering buying one. Your movie clips have put me over the edge! I don't think I'll be able to match the delight your daughter shows, but I'll still have fun! Great site!

I was floating around the web and ended up here. Its a dandy website with some useful links.I'm a collector of model steam engines and other antique mechanicals.I'm from the east coast of the u.s.,just figured I'd drop you a line.A little story you may enjoy.A few years ago I took a cross country trip in my car from east to west.Coming back east through the middle of the country I managed to find my way to the Jensen factory in Jennette,Pennsylvania.I went to the door of a fairly old concrete building, knocked on the door and they let me in!I was given a quick tour, met the people and took one picture.Having a little money left from the trip,I put an order in for a 55g steam plant, payed in advance and was on my way.I got the engine about three weeks later, neat.I had about 100 engines at one point,I do extensive repairs and make parts when needed.Quite a rewarding hobby.Have fun,J.

Odilon,
I signed your guestbook many months ago when I never heard of Bowman and you never heard of Jensen...now look what we've done!!! Half my shelves have been Bowmanized and the house of Moose is home to THREE Jensen pieces now with another in the procurement stage. My apologies to Fiona, never meant to set the hook quite so deep!!! Glad a few folks on your side of the pond now know that the U.S. was able to produce a first class line of steam engines under the Jensen name. Congrats on a website that is growing in "hits" by leaps and bounds. All the best from IndianaRog

Hi
In 1974 I found a model stationary steam engine in an abandoned farm house on some land I bought in Quebec Canada.
It looks like some of the Mamod stationary engines I've seen on some web-sites, but much older.
If I send you a picure could you help me identify and date it?

Thank You

Re your unidentified 'Other Steam engines'- if you don't know about it -I suggestyou subscribe to STEAM. Details from SteamJRG@aol.com. STEAM is edited by the same person who edits the 'Bowman News' I doubt if the upright engine is Plank - they usually marked their products with EP. Whistle, filler & safety valve are the main means of identifying these small engines although many were produced in Germany unmarked

Greetings to the Moose

I have been keeping my eye on your site for a week or two now and it is very interesting. I particularly like the Restoration Tips.

I have a growing collection of steam engines but as yet I do not own a Bowman. I am particularly interested in vertical boiler engines and have one that is virtually identical to your old vertical, even the whistle sounds the same. Like you I do not know who made it. I am working on my own humble website and will let you know when it is finished.

Best Regards
