Because he is so awesomely COOL.
Pip (Despite only showing up in the manga) Is a lot more complex that many give him credit for. Sure, there's the main characters 'n' all, but Pip does a lot for the organization (as long as he gets paid... heheh). His obvious leadership skill and boldness when it comes to fighting (or anything else, for that matter) have made him the captain of his fleet.
Also, who doesn't love the hat, the eyepatch, the nose-bandage, the braid, and that Drop-Dead sezzy french accent? ^_^
In other words, I cling to Pip diligently because I see him as a main character, and an important one.
And a very cool one.
